National District parks closed for prevention after rains forecast

All parks in the National District have been closed as a precautionary measure due to heavy rains and strong winds associated with a tropical wave and trough affecting the city, local authorities announced on Tuesday, 3 September 2024.

The decision was made after the Emergency Operations Center (COE) raised the alert level for the National District following the intensification of the weather system.

The rains on Monday and Tuesday toppled several trees in the city. Diario Libre mentions the avenues 30 de Mayo, Independencia, Núñez de Cáceres, Cayetano Germosén and Mirador Sur.

The safety measure aims to prevent potential hazards to park visitors. Additionally, it will facilitate any necessary cleanup efforts.

Reports of fallen trees have surfaced in various parts of the capital as a result of the strong winds and heavy rainfall. Crews from the National District city hall are working to clear the affected areas.

City officials have urged residents to refrain from placing garbage bags on sidewalks and in front of their homes to prevent them from being swept away by rainwater, which could clog drains and cause flooding.

The city government has advised residents to stay informed about weather conditions through official channels.
