Ministry of Interior & Police shuts down businesses don’t let people sleep

A joint operation involving the military, police, and other law enforcement agencies has led to the closure of several businesses and the arrest of dozens of individuals in the Dominican Republic. The crackdown, targeting establishments that have violated various regulations, was carried out across the country, including the Greater Santo Domingo area and several provinces.

The raids, authorized by President Luis Abinader and overseen by new Interior and Police Minister Faride Raful, focused on nightclubs, bars, and liquor stores. Authorities cited a range of violations, including the presence of underage patrons, illegal gambling machines, noise pollution, and safety hazards.

According to the National Alcohol Control Program (COBA), five establishments were permanently closed and another 24 were issued warnings for minor infractions. Additionally, numerous individuals were detained for obstructing law enforcement or possessing illegal substances.

Edwin Féliz, Vice Minister of Internal Security, emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety and reducing crime rates. He stated that the operations would continue on a regular basis, particularly in areas with high crime rates.

“The Dominican people deserve to live in peace and security,” Féliz said. “Our children should not be in places where they don’t belong. We are determined to enforce the law.”

The raids come as the government seeks to address concerns about rising crime and social unrest. Authorities have vowed to take a tough stance against those who violate the law, and these recent operations are seen as a clear demonstration of that commitment.
