A Nigerian man was apprehended at Punta Cana International Airport with his stomach full of cocaine following a routine inspection conducted by agents from the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD) and members of the Specialized Airport Security Corps (CESAC). He was detained in the departure area of the airport, moments before boarding a flight to Paris, France. After undergoing a screening process, foreign objects were detected in his digestive system.
The 58-year-old Nigerian, who also holds Spanish nationality, was transferred to a medical facility where, under the care of specialists, he expelled a total of 134 packets, presumed to contain cocaine, weighing over two kilograms.
The Public Ministry and the DNCD have launched an investigation to determine if others were involved in this thwarted international drug trafficking operation. The foreign national has been sent to the Permanent Attention Court of La Altagracia province to face justice in the coming hours.
Authorities have intensified security and surveillance measures at the country’s airports, successfully thwarting numerous illicit drug trafficking operations in recent days.
