The Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) and the Ministry of Foreign Relations (Mirex) have signed a new agreement to promote and boost the country’s exports, taking advantage of the Dominican Republic’s strengths to drive sustainable economic development.
In the document, signed by Adoexpo president Karel Castillo and Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez, both institutions highlighted the Dominican Republic’s ability to achieve this goal by strengthening ties with other countries, particularly through the management of the integration process and international cooperation, in line with the National Development Strategy.
The agreement also establishes the creation of a joint working group chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Relations and coordinated, on its behalf, by the Vice Ministry for Economic Affairs and International Cooperation.
“In this sense, this agreement with Adoexpo aligns perfectly with our mission to support the growth of the national productive sector and open new opportunities for Dominican exporters. Thanks to our political stability, legal security, and the development of a resilient and diversified economy, we are consolidating our presence in global markets. This favorable environment has been key to achieving sustained growth in our exports, which in 2023 reached a record of over US$12 billion, highlighting the quality and competitiveness of our products,” Foreign Minister Álvarez added.
For his part, the president of Adoexpo pointed out that this symbol of interinstitutional cooperation is a firm step towards strengthening our commercial, economic, and cultural relations, both within our nation and with the rest of the world.
“The signing of this agreement is an open invitation to all actors that are part of our economic, social, and cultural ecosystem. We are all part of this great mission to position the Dominican Republic on the world map of business and international cooperation,” Castillo added.
The joint working group will be responsible for developing an action plan aimed at strengthening communication and making diplomatic instruments available to the Dominican export sector, allowing for work with shared objectives; managing any tools in foreign markets that promote access to international markets; processing opportunities in terms of cooperation aimed at improving the capacities of Dominican exporters; conducting market research through diplomatic and consular missions; and establishing open communication channels between both parties.
From January-November 2024, Dominican exports reached US$11.9 billion, of which US$6.4 billion correspond to shipments to the United States, the main trading partner. Among the highlighted products are gold (US$1.3 billion), medical instruments (US$1.3 billion), and cigars (US$993.9 million), reflecting the quality and competitiveness of exports, key pillars in strengthening the national economy.
