The director general of the Tax Agency (DGII), Luis Valdez, says that around 900,000 citizens have already renewed their vehicle driving permits (marbetes), representing 52% of the registered population, N Digital reports.
Valdez says the bad habit of leaving the renewal for last minute still prevails, and people then complain of inconveniences and long lines at renewal centers.
“Citizens tend to leave the marbete renewal for the last minute, which then causes problems because they all flock to the institutions at the last hour and then blame the institution,” he stated, urging the public to complete the process in advance.
The renewal process began on 22 October 2024 and concludes on 31 January 2025.
The DGII director also reported a significant increase in tax revenue. “Tax revenue increased by 11% compared to 2023. We closed the year with approximately RD$846 billion collected, and this reflects both the growth of the economy and the confidence of the business community,” Valdez he said.
Despite a budget deficit, Valdez viewed the fiscal performance of the past year positively, emphasizing that this growth in revenues is a testament to the effectiveness of the implemented tax policies.
