Bani has a renovated public hospital

President Luis Abinader was in Baní, about an hour from Santo Domingo, on Wednesday, 19 March 2025 for the inauguration of the renovations at its main Peravia province hospital that serves a population of around 209,000.

The practically brand-new hospital facilities include 16 general consultation rooms, two adolescent clinics, four pediatric wards, 44 inpatient beds, gynecology, ultrasound, HIV program, X-ray, tuberculosis, lactation room, dentistry, operating rooms, and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), among others. The government invested more than RD$280 million in the renovation and modernization of the hospital.

The Presidency reported that President Abinader commended the National Health Service (SNS) for its efficient and effective investment in the hospital, aligning with the government’s guidelines. The President also pledged funds for the acquisition of a CT scanner.

Mario Lama, director of the SNS, noted that with this latest addition, President Abinader has renovated nearly 40% of the country’s 192 hospitals within four years. He added that still another 50 hospital inaugurations are pending.

During his visit to Bani, the President also highlighted the recent inauguration of the first trauma center in the south, located in Azua, about half an hour to the west. He expects to be back soon in Bani for the inauguration of the much-expected Baní bypass road, scheduled for this year.
