President Luis Abinader announced the plan to build 5,000 ecological housing units in border provinces by the Strategic and Special Projects of the Presidency (Propeep) office under Minister Rafael (Neney) Cabrera.
Neney Cabrera was interviewed on the radio show El Sol de la Mañana. He said: “We already have pre-approved financing through the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for the execution of this project in the border, to guarantee that Dominicans who live there have all the opportunities for growth and development and do not have to migrate to other cities.”
Cabrera said that they are taking steps to include this project in the 2023 budget, as instructed by President Abinader. He said the first 100 ecological houses were delivered last week in El Barro, Azua. He said the plan is for this type of housing to be the government’s model housing because the units are environmentally friendly and economically sustainable.
The minister emphasized that the Eco-Habitat housing of the Eco5RD program is an innovative novelty of this government. The houses use clean energy, have access to free wifi Internet and are in areas where the members of the families can receive training to enter the labor market.
The Propeep agency of the Presidency has constantly been in the media for irregularities in contracting and implementing projects. One of the most recent projects carried out by the Propeep office was the alphabetization program, where each person that learned to read and write cost the state more than RD$270,000. just one of several other projects undertaken by Propeep that have made headlines for major irregularities.
