The Mayor’s Office of the National District (ADN) announces the used plastics for toys exchange on Sunday, 8 January 2023 at the Municipal Palace in Santo Domingo. Mayor Carolina Mejia will be delivering the toys. The event commemorates Three Kings Day. The initiative is in its third consecutive year.
The campaign seeks to create an awareness of the damages plastics cause and teach people how to collect plastics for recycling. To qualify for points for toys, the bottles need to be clean, compressed and have their caps on. For each of these that meet these conditions, a ticket is issued for the exchange on Sunday, 8 January at the Municipal Palace located in the Centro de los Heroes from 8am to 4pm. To qualify for the exchange, an adult needs to register his cedula that proves the person is a resident in the National District. Up to two toys per cedula are allowed, depending on the number of plastics that are delivered.
The four categories are: small car, bycycle, skate, and doll.
With this initiative, the Mayor’s Office of the National District promotes the recycling of plastic in collaboration with BanReservas, Banco Popular, Banco BHD, Seguros Banreservas, Café Santo Domingo, Dominicana de Seguros, Propagas, Coca Cola, Claro RD, Pepín Seguros, Mejía Arcalá, McDonalds RD, Caja de Agua and Banco Caribe. The sponsors are joining forces with the city government to encourage city residents to cooperate with reducing the use of plastics, recycling and reusing.
