Aerodom, the management company of the Puerto Plata and Las Americas international airports, announced the appointment of Alex Santana as executive director of that organization. Santana was regional director of Continental Airlines at the time of the appointment. (11 May 2000)

Listin Diario reports that Holland America cruiseline’s ship, MS Veendam will touch port on Saturdays in Santo Domingo as of October. The ship will also visit Barbados, Martinique, St. Martin, St. Thomas and San Juan, Puerto Rico. For more information, call 732-0540. (10 May 2000)

The new operators of the Las Americas, the Consorcio Empresarial Aerodom, have organized the Department of Porters of the Las Americas International Airport. Vancouver Airport Services is in charge of the Las Americas airport operation. The number of porters has been reduced from 1,000 to 300, according to a news release. (9 May 2000)

The Bolsa Turistica del Caribe, the annual international travel trade show continues through Saturday at the Dominican Fiesta Hotel convention hall. Operations of the Herrera International Airport, Santo Domingo’s domestic traffic terminal, will be transferred to the Nuevo Isabela International Airport in June, the director of the Airport Department, Radhamés Jiménez told El Siglo. The Nuevo Isabela airport is located in Higuero, near Villa Mella, north of Santo Domingo. Jiménez says that construction is well advanced. …
