The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology has warned that its National Council will not certify graduate or Master’s degrees issued by Universities that are not properly authorized to teach these subjects. According to Diario Libre, Minister Ligia Amada Melo said recently that universities are offering courses without the Ministry’s authorization.

According to Education Minister Alejandrina German, the Ministry requires US$13 billion (RD$400 billion) to achieve the 2015 Millennium Goals. This is why she has asked for RD$36 billion in this year’s budget. Although the millennium goals require an annual budget of RD$40 billion over the next 10 years, this year’s is only RD$20 billion.
