D.S.Kahn...... or step up your game

Could be.

Hypocrisy is a human fault we all possess.

No doubt IMF bureaucrats do, as humans. IF they went to Sosua alone, which I doubt. The more likely schmooze with the gubmint & CB elite when they drop into Santa Domingo for a couple of days.

Here is their Board of Governers, the folks who make the loans to the DR and other poor countries. Look like some bad boys & girls to me, just itching for a night at Classico's, huh...

Or alternately opt for a business trip to N.Y.
You may remember this eminent well dressed "gentlemen", also slotted to be the president of France.
Well the US had JFK and others.

Of course some people here have to get out of the barrios
and start hanging with the well dressed DR country and golf club elite, of social sophisticates.

WHy would any sane person choose to do that? I didn't hang out with such snobs back in Miami, why should I do so here?

Once again,
The sarcasm seems to escape you.
Just because they are well educated, spoken and dressed they are not automatically better human beings.
Sometimes quite the contrary, get it now?
Case in point the former director of the IMF Dominique Strauss Kahn.

I dont understand why people that are orderly, have a nice standard of living and do not find themselves searching for association with riff-raff are automatically considered snobs. I guess we all feel comfortable with different folks.

Except Kahn attacked a maid, not a hooker...and got away with it.

Interesting.

Back on thread: let's keep in mind we're talking about the closing of a few bordellos. Period. The fact that this is treated like real news should tell you something about the crowd in the room.

And, until your post, nobody actually said anything about snobbery. But, to continue your straw man argument, in the eyes of the IMF Board of Governors (how did they get in this discussion again?), you may be the riff-raff.

Freqexpat. This is about reducing the international image the DR has with regarding to prostitution.

Freqexpat, the DR government has instead decided to make a war on whores and not embrace them for the wonderful type of tourist they attract. Do you know why? Because the DR government realizes there is vastly more money to be made in the normal tourism business than there is in the whore monger sex tourism business. That is why.

I own a hotel and we have a "No Chica" policy mainly because the type of guests who come for sex are usually the worst type. I think they choose to come to DR because the whores are cheaper than in their own countries, and they spend the whole time Nickel and Diming everyone, trying to get everything cheap cheap cheap. They trash our rooms, they complain about everything, they usually have a big argument with the chica, they attract the attention of the police. No hotelier needs that type of hassle. I think the same applies island-wide. Sex tourism is seriously hard work for everyone and not what Dominicans need or want.

Las Vegas? Please read up on Las Vegas

"Normal tourism business"... sounds like you are one of those folks living in the alternate state of reality that seems to be sweeping the world.

I guess Vegas the folks in Vegas got it all wrong and should learn from the DR.

Vegas is practically in a depression right now, So THEY got it right? They wish they had an altered state in Las Vegas that allowed them to prosper. This article on how badly Las Vegas is doing was published this past weekend:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/03/us/las-vegas-2008-housing-crash.html?_r=0

LAS VEGAS — Michael Hutchings bet it all when he built his 3,300-square-foot dream home on a strip of rock-strewn desert gazing west toward the Las Vegas Strip. He had made a fortune building custom homes as Vegas boomed higher and higher, and for his own, he chose red Spanish tiles, wrought iron and silky white plaster. A guesthouse? Sure. Swimming pool? Of course.

That was 2006. You know what happened next. Today, more than eight years after the housing crash, Mr. Hutchings, 49, owes about $800,000 on a property that has not recovered its value from the bubble days. As neighbors lost their homes to foreclosure, he started to hear gunshots and see stray dogs roaming the streets here around Sunrise Mountain. A drug dealer moved in down the block. Over the protests of his wife, Terrisa, Mr. Hutchings now stashes an unloaded shotgun in the bedroom closet and a handgun in the kitchen cabinets, tucked beside the glassware.

Read more in that article about what a paradise Las Vegas is today. Yep, they got it right good buddy.

Back to the DR and reality. Sorry, you have me completely wrong. I am making an observation of what this country is doing, my opinions are not playing into this. I could care less about prostitution if it has no negative effects on me. I feel prostitution should be regulated and taxed (it is already not illegal in the DR). The DR government instead has a war on whores to reduce the International reputation as a sex tourism spot.

It is the DR government that wants "regular tourism" as in the kind found in Punta Cana. 9 million tourists a year go there. The vast majority are not sex tourists. That is how money is being made. The DR government want to discourage sex tourism and the DR's reputation as being a place like Thailand.

They are just sacrificing a few bars and clubs to please the only country in the
the western hemispere where fcking a prostitute is illegal. If you dig deep enough
I guarantee you you?ll find Uncle Sam is twisting their arm or using the carrot
and a stick approach to get these politicians to comply. Pimping is not Human Trafficking
but Uncle Sam will soon have you thinking otherwise. ?Human Trafficking? headlines sell
and helps to keep the cash coffers full.

They would have to close down every single colmado in every barrio across this entire country
before they could even think about putting a dent in the world?s oldest profession down here.
These muppets ain?t fooling no body but themselves with all this media nonsense :cheeky:

When and/or if another night club closes in Santiago, PM me and I will re-open this thread.

For now it seems to have run it's course.
