I sure hope that opening date holds.
How long is the "new" drive expected to be to Santo Domingo? 2 hours?

Expected drive time and actual Dominican drive time can't be correlated to one another!

You figure there are about 70 km from Casa de Campo (La Romana) to the start of the Eastern Touristic Blvd in the Punta Cana airport entrance. You have the actual Autopista del Este from SD to La Romana (Casa de Campo). The total distance from SD to the end of the Coral is about 180 km. Las Americas/Autovia del Este/Circunvalacion San Pedro de Macoris/SPM-La Romana/Circunvalacion La Romana/El Coral

And if you add the new BLVD del Este and run to Samana is more than 223 kms...

The design calls for a travel time of less than 42 minutes to the Punta Cana Airport distributor!

They have a speed of travel of 110 km/h, which in Dominican time will be much higher than that. You figure the driving time at regular Dominican travel speeds would be around 30 minutes or a lot less...

If you really think Dominicans and expats alike will drive at 68 Mph in that smooth surface as designed, do I have a candy for you!

Seems huge and wasteful to serve an area of perhaps 100,000 - 200,000 permanent residents. A light railway would have been much cheaper and environmentally friendly. A toll of about 1,000 pesos would start to recover costs.

The toll on the road from the Samana airport to Las Terrenas , a 20 minute journey is nearly 500 pesos.
