I believe the quality of your calls, has a lot to do with the quality of your internet service.........A year ago I had trouble with the quality of calls from the place I was staying in Sosua, but earlier this month, it worked fine, so he must have upgraded his system. but I didn't bother to ask, just assumed he did..............

But it does save a lot of money and I have left 2 in DR so far/with both working fine...............

I have spent hundreds, in phone calls, in the past............Now I spend what I want..............if I take the Magic Jack, along with a cheap landl-line phone to one of the internet caffe's...........

But now I think I'll look into a minny land-line phone that i can carry in a small portable, hardcase container, similar to my camera case..........

Internet connection plays a big role!! Also, you want to make sure that your computer is running smooth. Do a de-frag, disc clean, and delete cookies etc. You can go to tools on your browser to delete your cookies and browsing history etc...It will speed your computer up, therefore giving you more bandwidth for any voice device

True that you need to leave your computer on, but the voice mail works very well (albeit it may take a little while to get a message). I'm not sure that it works the same with all email clients, but with mine, I get a message with an icon I just click on and hear the message through my laptop speakers. In fact, if it were a land phone, it would be the same for me. I don't stay home all day.

I like the fact that when I travel, like I'm going to South America in October, I can carry it with me. I still have the same US phone number for people to call me and I can call from anywhere in the world as long as I have a Wi-Fi connection.

I hope it lasts and doesn't break down. Too soon to tell. Just have it for little over a month now.

Same here...It works great from South America... Last year, while visiting Ecuador I found out about MJ and it saved me money and time....because otherwise you need to go out to buy calling cards or you need to find a calling center....

If you are in Santo Domingo I saw the magic jack on sale in the small gift shop of the Jaragua Hotel/Casino.

You can buy Magicjack in Santo Domingo, in "Joluma" in Gazcue (PC hardware wholesaler) - 809 221 5830 / 809 221 5834
It's located between the Presidential palace and Ave. Bolivar, just south of the east corner of the Pres.Palace, about 3 streets to the south. But call for exact directions.

I've had a MJ and it's worked great until the beginning of last week when it stopped working. Since last week, I have tried two separate MJ's on three separate computers and in no combination can I get anything to work. I've spent over 3 hours with MJ tech support and they cannot figure out the problem either.

Is anyone else experiencing problems with MJ service in Santo Domingo using Codotel as their ISP? Or to phrase the question another way, does anyone know if Codotel is not blocking UDP 5060 and 5070?

Piece of SH*T Codetel!

Here is what I did to "fix" my problem. I had to tunnel out and run my traffic through a tunnel. Basically that means I am hiding all my traffic from Codetel cause they are now blocking ports or certain VoIP packets. This is not a fix, it's a band aid to work around Codetel's BS.
