These pictures are AMAZING--thank you so much, Pichardo, for taking and posting them! I get to drive it in 3 weeks :)
Question: Can anyone describe how to get from the new highway to the road to Playa Popy (without going thru Las Terrenas centro)? I know where to turn (just past your place, Gordon :), but need to direct others not familiar with the area--
Gracias!!

Nice pix, I don't have anythings special to do this weekend, I think me and the family will take a drive down to Samana, just to take a drive on this new highway. Looks like a very nice drive.

Susan;
When you come into Lt on the new road it will now bring you out down near the Esso station. At the stop sign continue straight across the road and follow the new pavement. You are now on the section that connects to La Barbacoa. Follow this and make your left turn where you already know where it is and follow this road until it brings you out across from Punta Popy.

Thanks, Steve---Isn't there a small store on that corner? That's what I need to tell our arriving guests as it will be their first visit...

The store you are asking about is on the corner of the intersection turn off to Punta Popy. This is a paved turn to the left coming from Las Terrenas towards El Limon and at the bottom of the hill. The store is called Supermercado Boulevard, the owner is Reysa and she speaks excellent english and is an awesome lady. They can drop in there for directions if necessary. The same intersection has a turn to the right to Patio Zemi Villas and Puro Verde Organics and this is a dirt road. They take the paved road. It is likely one and a half kilometers through a small village called Abragrande and if they do not veer off on any dirt road and stick to the pavement they will run into Punta Popy beach.

LTSteve:

  • How long does it take from the first toll booth @ El Catay to the main road going through LT?
  • How lond did it take the old route from El Catay to the same spot in LT?
  • Does the new road connect with the main drag in LT at the road going to Colson/Playa Bonito?
And although we've driven it often, how long is the trip from the road toward El Limon/LT in Samana City to the Colson/Playa Bonito intersection in LT?

We're looking to re-configure MotoCaribe routes...

TIA

There is a "not so nice" article in today's Diario Libre regarding the "Bulevar del Atl?ntico"....of course it was written by a PRD economist, but it does point out some interesting errors and construction frailties of the new road. You can read it in Spanish here: En directo - El Bulevar del Atl?ntico - DiarioLibre.com

Makes for interesting reading, even knowing that the writer is not a friend of Pichardo's....

Accidents Ahead

... some interesting errors and construction frailties of the new road...

There are some bottlenecks where the new road enters the outskirts of Las Terrenas.
The most dangerous being the one through the barrio 'La Ceiba' where the 'boulevard' narrows down to maybe about 5 m only and the houses line the street.
This stretch is bound to see serious accidents as there the many local 'locos' (motoconcho calibrando, toddlers near the road, etc.) meet the SUV's of the 'capitale?os' visiting the 'Saman? zoo'.

We drove on some areas where huge piles of dirt was being moved around going to Colson a month or so ago. Has that area been finished? Paved? Where is the tollbooth in LT? Has the intersection with the main road been improved and marked?
