If an FBI report is sufficient for citizenship, then getting the finger printing done to request that background check is supposed to be done by an authorized finger print technician. The US Embassy in the DR does not perform this service. Another thing that would have to be done in the USA.

Again, they only send this via the US postal service using regular mail and it takes from 14 to 16 weeks and there may be a situation where there is no information on file at the FBI.

https://www.fbi.gov/services/cjis/identity-history-summary-checks

By the time you get an FBI report, the DR would probably consider it too old to use.

I took my birth certificate and whatever else to the Dom Embassy.... they did it all...
done in a second....

Had it done 1st at the Cdn Embassy in POP which the DR Consulate threw out fast.

The sponsor is the hard part for citizenship-
RD born
Bank Account of 100,000 pesos
Car in one name(not joint) w/ no loan

My lawyer is good - Guzman trained , now independent

Prints and clean record done w/ RCMP... Cdn FBI equivalent
Fast , easy cheap

You don't need a sponsor if you are married to a Dominican as Windeguy is.

Matidlda:

Thank you for the link to the on-line site for the Certificación de no antecedentes penales.

Now I do not have to spend 3 hours in line in the hot sun with 200 people in front of me.

Went to Santo Domingo today to complete the process. Got there at 9 and it was already jam-packed full. Completed the whole process by 2:30pm and was very relieved to get the heck out of there. Definitiva is good for 10 (ten) years. Yay! Card is purple, total cost was 20k pesos + 1000 for VIP. Only had to present 1 set of documents.

Definitiva clock starts ticking at the 1st permanent residency, not temporary.

My initial application was January 2008 but they only recognize me from 2010.
No definitiva for me yet

Were you able to renew your cedula where you live or did you have to do that in Santo Domingo?

You need 3 renewals of permanent...to qualify

This is my 3rd

1st temporary in 2008, 1st permanent in 2010....
Renewed in 14 and now 18....

I qualify next time around

As in all RD cases... just a bit different

I understand that part WW but I can not remember how many times I have renewed my permanent residence. Must I wait until I renew or have my attorney inquire beforehand?

other than saving time every four years what is the advantage of the definitiva? Money wise not that much difference if any. I can maybe see this if you live outside SD but for me living about 5 kilometers from immigration time is not a factor if there was a huge money savings maybe.

whats the price of the definitiva if you do it yourself, an what is the procedure for changing from pension to definitiva? I more than qualify!

Eligibility for 10 year Residencia Definitiva (RD-1)

I went to migracion in Santiago this morning to check if I was eligible.
Must have minimum of 10 years with "Residencia Permanente (RP-1)".

I qualified so I turned in my letter at the Santiago office.
Was told to check back in a month.
(I started this 90 days before expiration to be safe)

Three (3) things to note about proving solvency, you only need one of the following:

(A)
Letter from bank - must have a minimum of $100,000 pesos for the last 6 months.

(B)
Car Tittle - Must be a 2005 or newer.
(No puede tener oposición ni ser exonerada)

(C)
Property Tittle - MUST BE ONLY IN YOUR NAME.
(I know, kinda crazy especially if you're married)

That is whats in the letter they gave me, date on car could be outdated.

NOTE: Santiago Migracion has moved since 4 years ago.
They are located behind the old building, across the street.

Another little tidbit about getting the Residencia Definitiva (RD-1),
... it may be required that it be valid for at least 18 more months according to the paper they gave me.

(But note made that they are flexible depending on country of origin)

What if the bank account is joint account, will that work ?

Must the bank balance be above 100,000 pesos for the entire 6 months? That is how I read your statement that it must not go below that amount over the 6 month period.

Does this count the money the bank steals from your account ?
