I met the cutest shoeshine boy! He gave me a little flower and had the biggest smile! I tried to give him a few pesos for it and he wouldn't take the money he just kept smiling. I do feel bad for alot of them. What future do they really have?

I didn't say boycott the shoeshine kids. I said don't support them if they are skipping school to make a few peso's. The best future they will ever have is if they get an education. It's no guarantee they will have a better life, just a better chance for one.

Boys future...

Well, out of a 100 shoeshine boys when they grow up, you might have 25 who will end up in jail, 50 will do motoconcho to survive, 12 will migrate illegally to anywhere, 12 will have a good job, and the last one might be a baseball superstar in the US major leagues !!!

Squat, your idea is right, math might not be.

It would be great if 1 of 100 shoeshine boys became "Big League Ball Players"! I bet it is 1 in a million! Only "Sammy" as far as I know.Someone once said,"I been poor, and I been rich, and rich is better!" Do these "Do-Gooders" think that poor people choose to be poor? I bet that every Dominican mother that watches her son leave the house each morning to shine shoes, wishes he was going to school instead!Given the choice of eating or going to school,I go with the food every time!It is not a matter of choice,it is a matter of survival! If "Maxx-Jack***" is so worried about the shoeshine boys education he could sell all his assets, take a "Vow of Poverty" and start a school for boys in Sosua! That makes more sense than,"Don,t get your shoes shined during the day, except by an adult". Hey,what about "Adult Education"? The adult ,would it be, shoe shine "MAN",might be illiterate! Just imagine,if "Mad-Maxx" has his way we will all go around with un-shined shoes! oh! no! Criss Colon

You have to realize that most of these kids are not allowed to go home until they've made enough money, that is why many are still out in the street trying to make money at midnight. Many times I've given them 100 pesos and told them to go home and get some sleep. I see nothing wrong with helping the children, remember, they don't have the same opportunities or lives that we do in the US and Canada.

I hear you about the children.....but they do need to eat, and if that's what it takes, so be it.....better that than out stealing from the tourists and hurting everyone there that owns a business.....in some countries....children do a lot of other things and start at a younger age, working full time to help out the familys!!!

Jan, spare me the tears

Jan: as much as I feel for the shoeshine boys, they are still a nuisance.

I was out having dinner at Meson Bari in the Colonial Zone this Saturday and I was rapping to this girl privately in a corner outside the pub, when this intruding shoeshine boy came over and in the middle of my sensual rap to this gorgeous girl he comes up with the most hated word in my lexicon...."Quiere limpia?"

I waved him off and he insisted on shining my shoes. I kept repeating to this young rascal that I was not looking for a shine and that I cannot understand why I need to shine black suede shoes. He insisted on it saying that he could use water and soap. I could not believe this boy's insistence. I had to give him some change to get rid of him. In the meantime, I lost my rap train of thought. Fortunately, I scored well with the girl, but it was frustrating to deal with this shoe wizzard.

I have the same problem with windshield washer boys who throw a fastball with a sponge at my just- waxed car at stop lights ruining my windshield's clearcoat.

I believe it is time for the DR government to begin planned parenthood programs so that we can eliminate problems like this. It seems that the only thing poor people do well is having children. Responsible people have to bear the brunt of this problem. We pay more and more taxes and the government does nothing about poverty. There is no reason to have 50,000 shoeshine boys in DR. The economy is better than what shows in our social situation. I should not have to do the government's job.

Wow TW!!

I can feel your pain. Man, that is a difficult life you're living. I don't understand how you can cope with so much stress, how you can deal with the harships of your life without going whacko. My heart bleeds for your, just imagine, having your Casanova act interrupted and your Pimp-mobile projectile-sponged by these kids can sure ruin one's life.

You will be in my prayers

Somebody please put him out of his misery

Pib's broken heart

Pib:

I could not wait for your bleeding heart reply. I thought Jan was going to beat you to it, but I was successful dragging one of you out. I ran out of sad dog stories, so I went for the jugular....the poor shoeshine boy, the symbol of Dominican Republic's decaying society. WOW what a thrill to be on the minority who hates to be acosted by future Sammy Sosas.

By the way, have you given any "bolas" to shoeshine boys in your flaming 2002 car? Let me know if you want to date me and I will bring one of them along for the ride. I will pick you up in a motoconcho.

Shoe shine boys go to school, at least some do.

Whan I returned to Santiago after haveing the same shoeshine boy for nearly a year, we went to visit him in the squaller in which he lived. It was great that we had to wait for two hours until he returned from school for the day. His school day ended at noon. He returned and we had a great time visiting. We also got to meet his mother, with whom we have had an ongoing relation for now what has become eleven years. That young man will be graduating from college this May with a business degree. He could use some help right now however, as he was fired when his boss where he was working 45 hours a week as well as carying a full load at the university, discovered that he had received a visa and came to visit us while using accumulated vacation time. Although he has nine brothers and sisters, a mother who can not read nor write, she did see that all of her children got an education. So be sure that you don't judge all by what you see happening with a few.

Wow Jan! You put my thoughts into words. Now I see that you really have a compasionate heart, I think I am starting to like you. TW really needs our moral support, maybe we will even have to rally behind him when he comes up with his Final Solution.

You lose...

That shoeshine boy played you like a tune, TW! Wanna know why they keep bugging people after they've said "no gracias"? Because you have instilled into them that if they won't leave you be they will get paid. He beat you out of your cash, too funny.

You just rewarded him for the very behavior you are condemning.

Yes! We need to bond together to rid this world of the undesirables and those beneath us! They are not worthy to breathe the same air we breathe!

The problem is that you linked a unexistent file. The correct link would be
{IMG src="http://www.gifanimations.com/animation3/explosives/atom.gif"} (but using < > instead of { }). The problem is that that website would not let you link an image from their archives. Always check that before.

Back to the OP. Yes, bomb'em all. Let's make this a rich nation by getting rid of the poor. Ooops! now I remember, I am poor too.

"TW" El |PRINCIPE AZUL"

Oh TW,if only your parents had "practiced" what you "preach",birth control! I like your "style". Lets see if I have it right. If you want to impress a woman, treat shoeshine boys, and window washers like shit,is that it ? OK,how about if I berate a waiter? I,m catching on!And for all this time I thought that women liked to see our sensitive side.I have been being nice to "kids",and "dogs",and to a "lesser" degree "cats" and I was not going anywhere.Next time I want to "score" with a woman,I,ll "drop-kick" her dog into oncoming trafic!TW thanks for pointing me in the right direction! Hey!, how does this "line" sound to you? I,m in "Trios", a "fox" takes the chair next to me,"Hey "Bitch" buy me a beer!" Women like "take-charge -Guys" right TW? To "Maximum-jack" You "did" advocate the boycott of shoeshine boys, until everyone got "on your case" then you changed your post! No "SPINE"!! Criss Colon

To Criss and Lilamia

First Lilamia:

You are so right and a soothsayer(although in this case you predicted the past). I have just cut half the side of a tree in a corner of Federico Geraldino Street so that Haitian construction workers in a tower across the street would not eat their lunch and sit their dirty behinds in my garden area. They used to leave their plastic containers on my grass and the Haitian orange juice vendors would drop their orange peels in my garbage can. Then I fenced in the sitting area. All at a cost of $4000. It was the best $4000 investment I have ever made. The Voodo Neanderthals are gone...hahaha! If the tree branches bloom again I have some gasoil ready to drop in the roots for the final remedy.

Second, Criss:

The girl I was rapping to was not looking to my sensitive side. Since when are girls going out to the Colonial Zone any sensitive? The one I was dealing with even had a tatoo right on her belly. She was more concerned about her looks than the shoeshine boy. We are not talking about church-going PIB here or animal lover Jan. In fact, she was impressed. She said...I can't stand these people in the streets around here, lets go to AIRE! So much for sensitive girls. When was the last time the good guys won? By the way Criss, my parents practiced what they preached. They brought children they could support and stopped at the right number.

Criss, here's something you might want to try to impress a woman. For Christmas, take out your 9mm and have her shoot a clip in the air instead of fireworks. Better yet, have her aim at satellite dishes.

Mason Bari? ate alone again?

There are some who might not agree that your parents "stopped"having children at the "right" time! So you ate alone at Mason Bari? Then tried to score a prostitute in the street? At least you had something "in common" with her,you were both more concerned with your looks than the shoeshine boy! Sorry,I don,t quite understand the 9mm shooting in the air "thing". Is it "subliminimal"(as George Bush might say)? Criss Colon

about the window washer boys....

Windshield washers are a sure nuisance. They are hated by everyone, including myself.
Here is a story for you all: I was once stopped on a red light in a busy intersection in a Puerto plata street. As usual the window washer boys were at their game, throwing wet sponges at every windshield in near sight. In spite of your rejection of their services, they continue to throw a wet sponge at you.
Well, there was a guy, calmly waiting in his old car, for the light to change when a young ?tigre? window washer boy took aim at his wind shield. He threw the sponge with precise aim; however, to his surprise, the sponge landed on the guy?s face. He didn?t have a wind shield glass on his vehicle. You can just imagine the fiasco that took place afterwards. The boy saw the result and ran away as fast as he could, while the guy stepped out of his car (wiping his face) and spitting profanities at the whole washer gang. Everyone was laughing in disbelief even I was laughing so hard till my rib cage hurt.
On another occasion: My friend was to pick up his new girlfriend in Santiago. He was stopped at the intersection of Hache building when a washer approached his jeepita. He had just paid a premium price to have his jeepita washed and buffed by a professional. The whole job had costed him serious cash as he had his engine washed and degreased with the whole package. The jeepita was new to its tires and he was ready to impress the babe. At that moment a washer approached his vehicle with a dirty sponge. He politely refused his services and even warned him in advance as to not to touch his car.
To the washer?s demise, he had other plans. He simply took aim and threw in the dirty sponge in his usual fashion. The sponge landed on the window screen and the dirty water (?) splattered all over the front window. This enraged my friend to a point where he jumped out of the car and slapped the window washer boy around in front of the whole traffic jam. Mind you, the boy was not so young (about 18-19 yrs old); he should have known better?..
This not only taught the boy a lesson but to my friend?s surprise, the whole traffic jam crowd applauded his actions. Everyone was clapping and chanting in favor of my friend.
This proves how many people support the harassments of the window washer boys.

The 80's are over. Rap? Who uses that word anymore? Most poeple have a love hate relationship with the limpiabotas. We feel sorry for them yet they can be annoying!
What happened to the kids selling "Mani"? I use to love buying those when I sucked down my drinks at Drakes!
