. . . I believe it is time for the DR government to begin planned parenthood programs so that we can eliminate problems like this. It seems that the only thing poor people do well is having children. Responsible people have to bear the brunt of this problem. We pay more and more taxes and the government does nothing about poverty. There is no reason to have 50,000 shoeshine boys in DR. The economy is better than what shows in our social situation. I should not have to do the government's job.

TW

I think the fact there are "50,000" shoeshine boys shows everyone is not enjoying the vibrant Dominican economy. I tend not to reward the pesky types and use the services the more serio.

Mayor Giuliani is now out of work. One of his claim to fames is going to war with the windshield washers in NYC. In six months he could have the whole capital "cleaned" up for you TW.

Why at times I hate this Place.

MY experience last sunday regarding shoeshine kids.

It was sunday night when a shoeshine kid came up to me asked to shine my shoes. I said fine 20 peso's for spit polish shine.

I took off my shoes and he starts to shine away. A few minutes later the boy the stops everything and starts shining someone elses shoes while I am standing around in stocking feet.

I think this must be some VIP who will tip the boy for his quick service. The guy gets his shoes shined and walks away without paying the boy a single peso. It seems that this guy was a cop and accoprding to the boy "The cops never have to pay".

This guy p*ssed me off for two reasons. He didn't show me any respect and wait until I was finished and he showed no respect for the boy who shined his shoes and got nothing for it.

-----------------

We don't need multiple threads about the same subject manner which is why I tried to delete the new thread I started on Sunday before it got going.

Is everyone happy now. My spine feels better already.

Hey Maxx you've been around Sosua for the last two or three months. Why not give up on the bitching and start posting something positive ? Surely there is something in Sosua you like. Just a thought.

Criss and Tony C need some lessons

First Criss:
Meson Bari is sort of a singles place. Going with a girl burns you out(Te quemas) You meet your friends there, have dinner as a group or just drinks, listen to some loud music downstairs and head upstairs for a quieter dinner. Then you head off to the single bars and clubs. So Criss, next time you want to give me Santo Domingo at Night lessons, be sure to move where the action is. I live there not in Kankakee!

Second Tony C: Will you please introduce to everyone on this board the 21st. Century word for "rapping"? I talk to lots of people who still use the word. Whats the big deal? o perdoname, quieres que te de una cotorra? no, talvez le voy a dar muela a esa chica? No mejor le voy a soltar los dientes. O quizas le voy a dar caja? O talvez quiere que oiga la chicharra que le tengo?

Tried to figure out what it said, so I turned to babelfish.
Here's what I got:

"or perdoname, you love that you of one cotorra? no, talvez I am going to give tooth to him to that girl? Better I am not going to loosen the teeth to him. Or quizas I am going to give box to him? Or talvez wants that it hears chicharra that I have to him? "

now more confused than before

Oyelo! JJSK

Are you still confused? NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Spanish? You call that Spanish? Sounds like Dominican Patois to me.
As for the word "Rap". You sound like a old fart trying to show everyone that he is "cool" or "with it" to feel young. Most educated people would use the word "TALK"!

"crazy sight that this this color ant. The situation is ugly with this pot. But I solve oyendo culiquitakata, culiquitakita, culitakiti, kita culitaquita! Good that To6no this durissssimo, as I say to you? Clear velveteen, I must loosen in band to that cricket to which it was cotorreando to him last night in Bari Inn, because jeva tapeworm guille of crazy person. Parecia that habia swallowed a stone. Your you know well that I do not take cut, hand and as Candelier this cold one with Hipolito is necessary to take it smooth. That type is tremendous turpen and this breaking arm. To my they hauled the ear to me by good people, your you know culebro? But it watches, I always walk inform for that reason same and sleep with one open one and another one cerrao and always I have an extraction higado underneath the pillow so that I leave guardao it to whatever she puts me to means. And just in case resolve throws in Najayo I to me I have a nail pa. Your you know that the quarters pa is clavalo well deep in time of pot does not copull a cable and now but that already the cables estan hard to find with jodia optica fiber, and your it knows that that does not eat little with chele and if Hipolito to us continues taking hold by pichirri goes to us to eats guaraguao. "

You bet I'm still confused! :)

For all they are worth I can add a few letters myself.
As for slang, I use it all the time as well but remember that TW likes to show everyone how educated he is. Even when he is showing his feminine side!!!

Pib, Tony.

I don't think Spanish is spoken in any of the three islands, I'd say is more or less a cambalache. If you ever watch Cristina, she's an example of a Cuban trying to speak Spanish correctly, and she's on TV, oh my!. As for English, I had a problem with a Jamaican friend when he was telling me he spoke with a British accent. I answered he spoke with a Jamaican accent and from that time on, he has not been too friendly any more.

What do you mean? How about 12 yrs of Spanish lessons in school? Does it mean they cheated me? I want my money back...

Let me say it again: What TW wrote is slang, I myself didn't understand much of it. I guess I am getting old, it is natural that kids come up with new words/slangs/expressions that only they understand. It happens everywhere. That is in now way how people in general speak in DR or I wouldn't be able to understand it myself. Spanish is different in every country, each one has its own expressions, and that's what makes it the more interesting.

BTW TW What the heck does "Parecia que se habia tragado una piedra" mean?

Se?or Don Literato Tony C

Mi caballero se?or Tony C:

OFFICIAL TRANSLATION OF MY SLANG POST

Note: This translation is being done as close as possible to its English slang equivalent, although Dominican slang is hard to translate

Say JJSK, yoe look this thang(thing) is reeelly(really) gettin(getting)bad man. The situation is turning ugly with the economy. But my solution is culikitaka, culikitakita(listening to merengue by To?o Rosario being the solution)

Well, that To?o is really a mean sonofab..., How should I say? Sure man, I gotta let that ugly whore go, you know the one I was rapping to last night at Meson Bari, cause the woman was really hi(high on drugs). She looked like she swallowed a whole rock(crack rock)
You know damn well I take no sh-t from nobody, and since Candelier is "in" with Hipolito we gotta take it easy. That dude is tough man, and he is busting arms(busting knees mafia style)

They pulled my ears for being a good boy, you know snake? Look man, my ears are always up(like goats) and I sleep with one eye closed and another one open, and I always keep an ice pick(or 15" knife used to extirpate livers) under my pillow cause I can save it in somebody,s gut who gets me in trouble. And in case they send me to Najayo(prison) I got some dough buried. You know, you gotta bury your dough real deep in hard times, otherwise you gonna eat dirt(phone cables) and now that phone cable is hard to find with all this fiber optic crab and you know you can,t eat that stuff unless you got a few pennies. And if Hipolito keeps grabbing us by the ass(chicken tail ass) we.re going be eaten by crows.

signed TW, the red neck, uneducated, eye eating stray dog.

TW,
Do you every truly read these posts? Apparently not. You have no Idea who I am or what is my heritage. You do not know either where I live or what is my profession. Yet you sit there and come to silly conclusions about me and my ancestory.
I know your type. It is so obvious. The incapability of having a serious relationship with a female, A muscle car, The posturing, False superiority displays. A first year college student taking PSYCH-101 can figure out this one. "OK Class. All together now!" "Lack of Self-Esteem!"
As to my vocabulary...It may not be the largest, but at least I don't use the word "rap".
So go take your Rogain and Viagra, hop in your Firebird(Still haven't told me if you know what Pontiac stands for...), and go brow-beat a street vendor. I am sure it will make you feel better.

spanish literature

JJSK, I highly recommend the adventures of the
"El hombre increible" called CALIMAN.
You can get those in any mexican market.
They are written for children and adults
like me that want to learn some simple
palabras y frases and have some fun doing it. I would rather read the advetures of
Don Quixote in spanish but that will take
me another year. X.
