Next to nothing. Even a Captain only makes 10-12 (overestimated).

Look at today's news. See what an Assistant DA makes and what his net worth was reported as.

lots of people collecting salaries from military but working full time civil jobs. Their commander pocketing a portion to keep them on the military payroll.

A friend of mine had an interview for an exec. assistant post in SD. She is Dominican and speaks good English. They were offering about RD$15,000 per month.

Thank you, it gives me an idea of what I should expect when applying for that particular position.

Cook from 7-3 pm = $3,300 + $20 per additional meal. This week she took home an extra $480. Young assistant $50 per day. Handy man $150 per day + gas money for errands.

Full time, full professor at good university: about $60 K + perks.
Part time professor at good university: Undergrad->$275-$350 per hour of class, + perks.

School teacher: about RD$12,000-$14,000 depending..
School teacher at Santiago Christian School--about US$22,000 or so....an educated guess. No taxes, however :p

Translator-Judicial with Supreme Court Seal authority: $500 per page.

Simultaneous translator for conferences: US$350 per day.

Sexy model for your stand at a trade show: RD$10,000 per day (6 hours)

Tailor: Cuff a pair of pants: -> RD$100

"Escort" for a night on the town: About US$150-$200.....

Around $300 US dollars for 6 hours of work?!? Those models make more money than I make here in New York City!!! :surprised

Does anyone know how much a medical doctor makes in the DR?

Sure but your probably work 40+ hours her week. The "models" probably work 6 hours every few months;-) It is much cheaper to find a hot girl, buy her a sexy outfit, and pay for the salon. Giver her 1,000 pesos on top of that and you have one very happy girl.

To add:

Shoe Shine boy - 300 pesos per day in Gazcue, Santo Domingo 8am to 8pm

 bad guess! WAY off! One doesn't even make half that. Starting pay in the states is sometimes four times the amount, at least.

Good point!!! ;)

I have a question for everyone. With such low salaries, how can these people pay rent, buy groceries, pay for school or transportation, and many more?

Chino - the answer to your question is that very few can pay for decent rent, buy good quality and varied groceries, pay for school or relaible transportation that doesn't come with life threatening risks attached .... that's why we have the barrios, people who live on rice and platanos, schools with no running water or school supplies and death-wish motos as well as publicos that stuff 8 people in a toyota corolla for another death-wish drive to/from work.

Sorry - I'm done! :nervous:

Stay well,
Amy

Thanks Amy for your post. :)

My friend's brother is in the army and he only makes around 4500 pesos! It's amazing that they can survive.

Have a good day! :classic:

I think you will find in many cases, extended family units sharing living expenses. You will see parent (or parents), grown children with their spouses and chlidren sharing living expenses and pooling income. It's not unusual to see 3 or 4 family units sharing a house or apartment.
