A little of both probably - except I typed pi1 instead of pi2. A rose by any other name....... yap yap yap yap yap
Yap is of course an exotic island in the West Caroline Islands. I tweet pi2 and yanandu on occasion from this fairly remote island. You can ask.

The Trojan Red batteries are going for $5,450 now.
PS: Only add "Battery" water to the batteries when they are charged !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trace 3kw Inverter - $23k at OchoA ( Sounds mislabeled price wise )
Xantrex 3.6kw Inverter - $43k at OchoA

on the other hand, shalena, forget the inversor. elevados in the city centre will provide your family with with spacious and airy accommodation. no need for light, there are plenty of street lamps and climatic long beams of passing cars. no need for fans or A/C as there is always fresh breeze blowing under autopista. you will have a direct access to dumpsters of macdonalds and KFC for a quick snack. dressing your kids in rags and sending them to beg or wash windscreens will provide additional income. what more could a mother ask for?!
and what is crucial: you will be living on a humble budget while caring for our precious planet. hallelujah.

A bit high - a cobra 1.5kw inverter was $95 dollars from Amazon,

Schumacher SC-1200A SpeedCharge 12/8/2 Amp Charger/Maintainer/Starter/Tester $45 Amazon.

Battery load tester and sg meter $40. Good idea to run the load tester occasionally - ,wakes up, the batteries.

I have seen people buy new batteries when they were still good.

$8,000 pesoes plus some shipping. Save the money and buy a solar panel.

Switch was not much and auto switches are available.

Batteries ( 2) I found at 3,500 pesos each.

I have been reading about Gel batteries instead of the typical wet cel batteries for the inversores...anyone have experience with these?

The advantage to those batteries is ZERO maintenance!!

The key to long "Wet Cell" battery life is maintenence!!
Have a calender on the wall, and mark each time you check the water level.
Like "Wilford Brimley" says about your blood sugar,"Check it,and check it often.More as the barreries age.Don't overfill. An inch from the top is good.
I also add a little EDTA to the water,"Battery Water",about a tablespoon to each quart of distilled water.
The last thing,is that a friend of mine brought me a device :alien:that uses the batteries current to pass an intermittent pulse through the battery bank. One device for each 4 batteries. It's called a "Desulfiter. Cost $50 US.Have it on for about a year, the batteries are two years old.Only time will tell.??????????????????????????????????????????

Treat Them Well

The 'wet' batteries (e.g. Trojan T-105) have a good price/performance ratio and I like them because they can be charged with high amps (not so the gel batteries).

I buy double-destilled water (ddH2O) in gallons from a lab, it is even cheaper than that 'battery water' in smaller bottles (which I do not trust anyway).

Good brands of batteries, treated well, last 3 - 4 years.

Hi dear it all depends on what kind of battery you have. If you have a cheap one then it will tend to run out faster. If you have a better brand than it will last a bit longer. What i do when i have my laptop plugged in is to turn the car on about every 45 min to an hour just to be safe but i have used a portable radio plugged into my car for thre hours and i did not have any problems Hope this was helpful!!!!!!!!!

Interesting...

This is all very confusing. I kinda just want to buy it but it seems there's a lot of choices.
Also, is there not a person that does all this battery recharging crap?? Like an Inversorcero or someone like that? LOL

Yes I bought it from my pal who used it for a year in one of his pharmacies. He was closing this unit.

yeah, he's generally called a husband. quite useful in other areas as well. i heartily recommend! ;)

any electrician, really. or even you. all you need is to check water level periodically and fill the batteries up when needed. not that i understand what that means - this is what miesposo tells me when he proudly takes off to the laundry room with the intention of doing "some work". i let him be. it's a male pride thing. like fishing, i think :)

Christopher,we are discussing in-the-house,deep cycle batteries connected to an invertor that changes DC long life batteries
power into AC current to power the electric "Things" you have in your house, when the electricity from the "street" goes of for many hours at a time.
But your idea for your car batteries is always a good idea.

Tried that husband thing before, highly overrated. I did wonder what else they were good for though, well, besides the obvious :) Thanks for the tip.

Criss, I learned a pretty good lesson about maintenance on my last trip. Like if you are gone for 2-3 months at a time it is best to completely shut the system down. Came back and my batteries were bone dry and the cables connecting the batteries to each other developed oxidation at the edge of the cable/contacts and the thing burst open from within. $$$

That and my friendly neighborhood snitch told me the vecinos were running an extension cable to my inversor, which WAS mounted outside my apt. Yeaaaa i nipped that in the butt!

Stateside I have a battery charger that has a "desulfate mode" which when activated runs a 24 hour cycle and pulses the internal battery plates to remove any crusties that accumulate and keep it from holding a charge. It definitely works, I have brought several batteries back from the dead with that method. The one you mentioned sounds like a more permanent setup, gonna have to look into that.
