Those antibody tests to see if you had the disease already are likely to be pointless wastes of time and effort. With fading hopes for a vaccine and any type of long term immunity, what will be done next?

Obviously there is no point in people being vaccinated if it doesn't work. But there are a large number of groups around the world working on developing an effective vaccine. I don't think you or anybody should dismiss the vaccine or take a lap of honour for believing you are right in your early guesswork until all attempts at developing a vaccine have been exhausted.

the level of the health system has no influence in that.

less education is more cases and more rumors and false information spreading is more cases.

Anyone can make that correlation bases on case numbers per country and education level. ( dont be fooled by a small part of a population beeing world class educated if 95% of the population has no proper general education )

Look to Asia with its superior level of education for example.

On the other side bad news for DR as the population is feeding on chismes and the ranking last place in PISA school test is no good sign either.

Good observation: general education helps in this war. If educaton is missing rumors emerge. Especially here, where spreading rumors is not sanctioned by law. In Vietnam they would not be able to sit in comaldos talking and talking.

Well, and that is a deep subject. Let us look at it this way.

1) It is likely the most effective way to develop antibodies is to actually be infected by CV19.
2) Most of those who have actually been infected with CV19 have been found to have antibodies that disappear over 3 months.
3) Vaccines are extremely unlikely to provide more antibody protection over a longer time period than actually being infected by the disease.
4) All of the experts in the world cannot change 1, 2 and 3 as far as I know. ( I do hope they discover something that has never been done before.)

CV19 is looking like the coronavirus' that cause common colds with respect to immunity. People only have short term immunity after catching them. And there is no effective vaccine because of that.

What about polio chicken pox measles shingles ...no herd immunity but vaccines...
Its not all over yet...but us pandemic specialists are ready! ;)

For polio, was it not about 30 years to eradicate polio, from the mid 1950's until the 1980's?

By the end of the year, there should be some data on how long the antibodies last and if they work from the Pfizer vaccine.

A vaccine is actually a way, a better way, to get to herd immunity.

In order to get to herd immunity, enough people need to be immune for long enough that the disease has no one left to infect.
Immunity can be from previously having the disease or a vaccine. We still have no idea if a vaccine will last long, but indications
are that it will not last long.

Lay people properly trained to spot arrivals suspected to having the illness can direct them to professionals for more scrutiny.

Let's hope this virus is not as harmful as represented and nobody gets really ill.

the rapid tests have a lot of false positives

now really you don't know if you had it or not. As the positive rapid tests may be false or the negative PCR.

thats why they do in other countries with enough testing 3 pcr tests on different days in a case like yours. As there are no false positives doing more of that test helps eliminate the false negatives.

This is contrary to what the pneumologist(?) At Clínica Bournigal told me. almost no false positive on the Rapid test, he said. the Blood test and symptoms that developed showed that I did have the COVID-19 virus. When you cant breathe going from the bed to the kitchen...
