The fear of the unknown is greater than the fear of the known.
The known is that as things stand, there is a reasonable chance one of the children will get Covid if they are in an environment where they come into contact with a lot of people. If they do and they pass it on to their parent, who then suffers long term health issues or dies, how will they be able to live with themselves?

Staying on CV in the DR and perhaps saving bob Saunders:
Epidemiologist believe children are capable of carrying a much higher viral load than adults.
No mention in their research but I would see runny noses as a further red flag.
Countries that have opened schools have seen near immediate spikes in CV cases
and shut down the schools.
Anyone thinking that face to face interactive schooling can be accomplished is ignoring or ignorant of the research.

A well respected epidemiologist suggested today that a cheap at home paper strip with immediate results could be developed.
Be great to have a CV19 instant result along with my morning coffee.
Could effectively stop community spread of this plague until a vaccine is thoroughly tested and distributed.
Wonder if the average Dominican would accept testing herself every day.

The numbers seem to suggest that the majority of new cases are among the middle aged and younger generations. These are the very same groups that balk at masks and social distancing. If you choose to go out and socialize with your friends or gather at the beach or some other place you have to accept the potential consequences of that decision. Especially if you choose not to take basic precautions and insist that those around you do the same. When I ask that you respect the distance between us I'm doing it for my benefit not to be mean or antisocial. So for goodness sake, learn what a minimum of 6 feet looks like and stayat least that far away from others. You shouldn't have to be repeatedly told to back up. It's not that hard to maintain separation if you choose to do so and make it a conscious priority. If you are outdoors and far enough away you can even forgo the mask for awhile and allow your face to cool down. But no , going to bars, restaurants and other social gatherings seems to be too alluring so the disease continues to spread. If the idea is to socialize with your friends and you end up getting them sick or they you, what have you really accomplished. Bringing the disease home to your otherwise healthy family because you are undisciplined is inexcusable.

The new medical authorities have been slow to get testing starting again. Albeit, they said they would receive a shipment of 100,000 PCR tests on this Tuesday, 25 August.

I hope the tests arrive as scheduled. When I saw the number of new cases, the first thing I thought was “ and that’s without much testing!” ☹️

here's some new info on reinfection

That is some really bad news regarding the development of a vaccine if it has to protect against various mutations of CV19.
And of course developing herd immunity in general.

Government controls can now remain in place for years....

Yes , vaccine and immunity become less effective in this case

Testing at your residence.
With an RD insurance policy, the test/muestras are free.
Without an RD insurance policy, the cost is 4300 pesos. Cash & Credit Cards are accepted as method of payment.
Results online, within 72 hours.

HIghly doubtful that method is available.

A few weeks ago I called to schedule an appointment and ultimately got a recording stating the home tests were completely booked. Every subsequent attempt to schedule got me the same response. I had hoped to be able to get a tester to come to my office and test everyone at the same time.

The only reason I even tried was to have it covered by insurance.

It was much simpler for me to buy a box of 40 and administer them myself. That is what I have been doing every 15 days with my employees.

You noticed, somehow, that people will only be "controlled" for so long. And then they won't be flattening the curve..

As for tests, I have stated there will never be enough tests. With results starting to show that people can be sick again from a different mutation of CV19, this problem is going to be with us for years. But then, I thought that would be true from day one.

And on islands:
Island outbreaks
U.S. islands in the Caribbean and the Pacific — which largely avoided early coronavirus outbreaks — are emerging as new hot spots. Hawaii now ranks among the states where new cases are growing fastest, and the U.S. Virgin Islands is halting tourism for a month.

Well, Mr. Jones, as they say......timing IS everything.
I just received a test this morning in my current location, here in Guayacanes. The test was requested on Monday morning at 10am, and my insurance information (Humano) was submitted within ten minutes following said request. Yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon at 4:45pm, I received confirmation from the Referencia Lab in San Pedro de Macoris that a technician would be responding to my location this morning (Wednesday) at 9:40am, and to insure that I would be present at my location.
The technician arrived this morning at 10:20am, accompanied by a security driver, in a dark green Honda civic, with of course.....tinted windows.
The technician was wearing typical lab gear, and in front of my location donned a paper gown, paper booties, mask and face shield, and then entered my premises with a small tackle box and cooler.
On my coffee table, the technician laid out a sheet of paper (the kind doctors roll out on exam tables), my paperwork, and the testing utensils, and then asked me to confirm the spelling of my name on the paperwork.
After a quick study, and affirmation, she asked if I was ready? She then inserted the skewer type testing probe up my right nostril, until it felt like it was touching my eye. She removed the skewer stick, and repeated the process with my left nostril. Eye included.
She then sealed the probes/samples in a vile, and entered them into the cooler, and handed me the receipt with my unique username + password to receive my results within 72 hours from their web site.
As she was leaving, I asked her how many home visits does she do daily? She told me she averages 20-25 different homes per day, but sometimes the residences have more than one person receiving the test. She is not the only examiner for her office location.
Time of Arrival: 10:20am
Time of Departure: 10:27am
Why you, nor your employees were unable to receive the same treatment I just did is beyond me. Perhaps you can try visiting the office in person for a request to visit, as sometimes phone lines can indeed be difficult to deal with.
All in all, it took longer for me to type and share this posting than to receive the exam. My eyes are still throbbing.

Hey! That's great news! I suspect timing isn't the issue as much as your location. At least it worked out well for you.

All's well that ends well. I hope your results come back negative.

He was re-infected 4.5 months after his first infection, so that's consistent with immunity lasting about 90 days.

Even a 90 day vaccine would be useful for frontline staff and maybe would even be effective for exposed individuals. Not ideal, but not useless either.

Part of vaccine design is provoke a strong and rapid anti-body response. It could be designed to have a longer lasting response.

It's all hypothetical at this point. I still haven't seen any data from the released Russian vaccine.

Anyone have a site that lists the various phone numbers to call for Home CV19 tests for the various areas of the country or even a central number if that is how the requests are handled? Or some place to get for more information even.
