I’m on the fence with them using pricy two week stays in hotels as a travel deterrent. I’m also not sure that many Canadians actually care about other Canadians travelling to sunny destinations.
The variants are in Canada and a lot of the variant infections are not travel related. Infection levels, and hospitalizations are showing signs of decreasing in Ontario and Quebec, two of our Covid hotspots with the largest percentage of voters in Canada.
Trudeau has his hands full putting out major fires right now, the Payette affair, the interruption in Covid vaccine supply, the loss of another Liberal MP who was a conspiracy theorist, cancellation of the US permit for the Keystone XL pipeline.
He doesn’t have the ability to keep all
those balls in the air, avoid a non confidence vote, and still be our selfie king Prime Minister. A decision to ban travel and force people to pay for their isolation could be the motivator for a non confidence vote.
Jason Kenny and other Premiers I suspect, wouldn’t be happy with a Federal decision that puts more financial stress on Albertans by forcing them to pay for isolation facilities when they can isolate properly at home. Kenny and his Federal MP’s will do anything they can to end Trudeau’s government and Trudeau knows this.
I would never describe Trudeau as a deep thinker. He is a man of the moment unlike his father who had an egalitarian view of Canadian society and used his power to further that view.
Travel ban, highly unlikely. Forced isolations in hotels maybe, but at great cost to our black face wearing Prime Minister. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer!

The honour system does not work.
They caught over 40,000 violators and gave them warnings, and very few tickets.
They should have thrown the book at them to set a proper precedent and deterrent.

Bill. I saw this release yesterday evening. I questioned it. It says US tourists will get free vaccinations. Is that true or do they mean free tests?
Can’t speak for the rest of Canada but the honour system worked well in my province. A few minor infractions. No infections in my area since the pandemic began and two travel infections in one community 40 minutes away. Two in another one hour away. Our Covid testing centre was shut down months ago. We had one scare. Turned out to be a false positive.
I guess living in the boonies makes isolating easier as opposed to living in major urban centres.

I am 99.999% sure that it is about free simple CV19 tests and NOT free vaccinations. Since the vaccines are in two doses weeks apart it makes zero sense at all. Since he DR government already stated it will vaccinate citizens it makes no sense at all.

The free tests for those from the USA is already "old news".
When you get off the plane phone visa and tell them you card is comprised. Now you have no way of paying for a hotel stay. You can't be arrested and jailed on the basis of some people haven't self isolated. This is how out of touch with reality the world is going.
They make you get a test, if you are negative you can board the plane and now you are basically arrested and watched for 14 days. When does the stupidity stop?

Just a warning to Canadians on North Coast... Bourgnal Puerto plata is a shit show for test ...they tell you book online..you get there nothing matters first come first serve..2.5 hrs they haven’t taken passport pictures yet and money..they haven’t even got to you have to wait for test part...
