In return, they get the best part of the beach cleared, so that their land is that much more valuable for development. IIRC there are plans to build 3 condo buildings of 7 stories each on the land between the beach and the highway. Removing all of the shacks will open up the views of the lower floors.when the owners of the central part of the beach is "giving" 2 parcels at each end to the government there is always a self serving reason. What it it they get in return?
I think NCD is right. They avoid the hassle of eviction and clearing the land, plus they get approval for a seven story building.owners as in property owners not the business owners. The owners of the actual land
That is how I see it. It is unlikely the vendors will be able to fight city hall and win. Still no dates for the project to start? The vendors aren't giving anything. They have no real say in the matter. Some lucky ones will get to be in the plazas.
There is a single owner of all the land above the beach and he is the one that donated the land to the government. The "businesses" do NOT own any of the landowners as in property owners not the business owners. The owners of the actual land
Did they say what they would accept?I was at the meeting (I have no dog in this race...I went to be aware of what is happening). The location was at the big event space at Nelson's Bistro and the place was absolutely packed with many layers of standing folks all around the open sides of the space as well as full seating inside. It was a powerful, very well run , intelligent meeting. There were video presentations (between 5-10) of people who have worked at the beach for 20, 30 ,40 etc years. Tiny small business's (like the guy who walks around selling oysters, a tiny hole in the wall colmado) and these people talked about how they raised their 2-3-4 children/ cousins/family all supported from their business .... It was moving and very well done. When the head of the Association spoke he was very positive (in fact the whole meeting was very positive) praising President Albinder ,the development of Sosua, the growth of tourism (which they were taking credit for) and the development of the beach. Jamas / Never....That was the word used and the point of the whole meeting. They will never accept the 2 plazas. That was the whole point.
It was a fabulous show of strength and unity.
Exactamente. The President came to the beach and signed the deeds right in the parking lot, what more proof do you want??
Well, if they start tomorrow I might survive to see the completed project. 3 condo buildings 7 stories tall, I wonder where all that sewage is going. In return, they get the best part of the beach cleared, so that their land is that much more valuable for development. Not necessarily. Same as sub-letting.If those vendors have been paying rent to other than the owner, i think they would have a good case for fraud.
You know what they say __it flows downhillWell, if they start tomorrow I might survive to see the completed project. 3 condo buildings 7 stories tall, I wonder where all that sewage is going.
And the unions are going to find out just how far....You know what they say __it flows downhill
If your Family owned Beachfront Property, and for the last few decades you had squatters on it ..so you were in a Holding pattern.Every time I read this thread, it makes me sad. Beach gentrification is never a good thing for poorer locals. But at least many here are very happy.
If your Family owned Beachfront Property, and for the last few decades you had squatters on it ..so you were in a Holding pattern.
Along comes a Rich Hotel Corporation, and they offer you MILLIONS and they would solve your Squatter problems , because they are Politically Connected ..
I wonder how you would feel about affecting the Locals in that Scenario..
We can " FEEL " however we want about the Locals and Access to the Beach , and the destruction of the VIEW
and IMO we DO have a RIGHT to access to the beach ( sand part) . That should not change .
but as far as the Landowners getting PAID for what belonged to them
.. in the Bigger Picture isn't Legal Property Ownership & the Ability to SELL what belongs to you more important ?
Why would I or anyone take away your right to feel bad for them ?..
I never said you should not feel bad for them ...
but in the end, There is nothing we can do for them , this is a Legal Matter now , especially since the President of the Country is involved ..
these deals are going through . there is no stopping it .
I highly doubt the land was just donated for Zero .. probably some huge Tax Benefits were reaped , at the very least . OR the land owners are getting a slice of the ACTION.. . STOCKS perhaps in the New Corporation which owns the Hotels
Claiming it was Donated , makes it harder to hate them , or worse , possible retaliation and violence..
