There is actually an Aarhus airport but it’s small. Better for international is Billund and I am considering next time Billund to Bruxelles to SDQ.
I always go for the shortest most convenient flight, avoiding several countries and multiple connection.

However there is another option but with a longer flight.
If you are adventurous DF MEX is an interesting place for a few days or visiting other Mexican places.
You got the Belgium, Zürich, Madrid options as well.

LH- FRA to MEX 11:55 hrs
AM- MEX-SDQ 4:39 Aero Mexico

I arrived in Santo Domingo. Stayed one night in Madrid near the airport and met with a Spanish friend I hadn’t seen for many years and we had tapas. Iberia is a very good airline. They have good service I think. Decent food. And the stewardesses are nice and good looking. When I travel back I won’t have to stay a night on the way. Will arrive early enough in Madrid to get on the plane to Hamburg and then train to Aarhus.

Why not Brussels airlines CPH-BRU and jetairfly BRU-PUJ?

€100 and €300-500. One way.

Still a long trip

AARHUS CPH, 300 km.
Just looking at this thread again. I have been going either with BA via Gatwick to Punta Cana or Iberia via Madrid to Santo Domingo.

I think I may try this option next time I go to the DR. Fulano 2 suggested via Bruxelles to Punta Cana. I first go by train to Copenhagen airport and then fly to Bruxelles and then to Punta Cana. Bruxelles airlines. Owned by Lufthansa I think.

I am traveling now Hamburg to Madrid to Santo Domingo with Iberia. Nice but not particularly practical. First I was on the train from Aarhus in Denmark to Hamburg. What other options are there from Europe ?

I have been in recent years on BA from London Gatwick to Punta Cana. I am hearing about Condor and Bruxelles Airlines.
Just booked a flight from punta Cana to munich with condor. Moved my trip from august to september. We saved more than 2 k through the delay. Until end of august there are many vacations in europe and prices are "Sky" high. I used to do this Masochistic trips to brussels to save some $. Not anymore ! Time is also $ and i get to old for this BS.

AdOn to Condor : They don't f.. around with overweight any more. You pay a lot for every single kg. If you carry more than allowed in the ticket, you better ad another bag online prior to your flight.

That could be a good option. I will have a look at that. I am also looking at Zurich with Zurich Air and Edelweiss to Punta Cana.

Yep, we've been looking at Condor for months. We should have been in the DR by now but due to family emergency on my side are not yet. Flying in June would have been cheap, now we're indeed looking to wait until September in the worst case scenario. Also it's good to compare MUC/FRA and PUJ/SDQ/POP routes and see what is cheapest. Usually to PUJ is indeed cheapest.

I'm also one of those who went through multiple stops before reaching the DR (Heathrow/JFK/MIA), but I refuse to do that with kids and my wife simply hates flying and waiting time...

Also true, we had this happen the first time already in early 2022. Every kilo is counted and despite having purchased extra, check in made us take one extra bag to the cabin (they allowed this), as in check-in baggage it would have been like 150 EUR extra...

From the Netherlands, in the past we flew many times BRU-PUJ with Tui. But with the added driving on both sides and the delays Tui had we changed to AMS-MAD-SDQ mainly with AirEuropa or AMS-PUJ with Tui. Last years via the US to SDQ with Delta and AmericanAirlines mainly because it’s cheaper. Don’t forget your ESTA when flying via the US and customs there are a pita.

We will be going early November so I also need to look at all options again.

Agreed, always seem to be cheaper going through the US, for some reason.

Since COVID I've given up and gone Iberia via Madrid, and also edelweiss via Zurich.
The downside of Edelweiss is they only run a flight or 2 per week.

I have been trying to put it together going via Zurich first Zurich Air and then Edelweiss to Punta Cana. No there aren’t many flights.

Going through the US is also an option and I used to do that but you have to go through immigration and it can take some time.

Since I always look for a good cheap/short combination I recently booked a new to me option: Amsterdam>JFK>SDQ by Jetblue. The new part for me is they fly transatlantic with narrowbody aircraft (Airbus 321Neo (LR)). I wasn’t too thrilled flying a smaller plane untill I found out the seating space is at least the same as on a widebody. Since a year they offer these flights from London, Paris and Amsterdam.

A return ticket (nov-feb) including 23kg luggage (+€25) was a total of €635, stopovers in JFK 3-4 hours.

Air Europa from Brussels (I suppose many other cities) via Madrid to SDQ or PUJ
Iberia from Brussels (I suppose many other cities) via Madrid to SDQ
Air France from Brussels (I suppose many other cities) via Paris to SDQ
Air France stopped to fly to Dominican Republic.

Tui in the UK does Manchester and Gatwick to Punta Cana, not sure if you can maybe get to Manchester more easily?

Air Europa goes daily from Madrid to Santo Domingo and the flight leaves late afternoon, so it's much easier for connections within Europe. The Iberia leaves just before mid-day, so it makes connections hard, although Iberia has got a second daily service on some (random) dates in the winter months.

There is also a charter service called W2Fly I think or World2Fly from Madrid to Punta Cana which is probably cheap and cheerful.

One idea would be to see if you have a direct flight from your part of Europe to anywhere in the Caribbean and then pick up a connection from there. For example, if you can get a direct flight to Curacao and then pick up an Arajet from there.

Anyone thinking of flying on BA or Iberia should be looking at Avios, their frequent flyer scheme. You can buy the Avios and then book flights using these, and just pay the taxes, and you can also accumulate Avios through flying, shopping via their website, having an Amex credit card etc. The flights work out significantly cheaper (like 350 Euros for Business Class on Iberia) and you can cancel or change up to 24 hours before departure for a penalty of 25 Euros.

Without an American passport must wait in a very long immigration queue, then wait for suitcase to arrive, go through customs, and hopefully they have one of those carrier belts that can re-checkin baggage without too much hassle, hopefully 3-4 hours is enough, only just...!

I missed a flight once going through USA, never again, I rather pay more to avoid all that nightmare..., just because in North America they don't have the "transit" concept, as they can not trust their people, halls, doors, etc. etc. ...!

Flying has become a real hassle, but going through the US and have to go through Customs to continue and re check baggage is a joke. To be avoided at all costs.............

Yup I know. Most 3rd world countries do better than that. For now the price difference in these flights is enough to swallow the humiliation. I am sure that will change when I am too old for that.

Even those with American passports have to wait in those lines, maybe not as long as foreigners. One of my brothers decided to get pre-check and later he got global entry, but for him it makes sense since he is constantly flying somewhere, sometimes goes to a town just to be one of the spectators in certain games. Considering the seats he be getting, I can actually spot him on TV for the various baseball, basketball games (plus for some reason he’s a fan of the Colts, they are the only reason he has been multiple times to Indianapolis, lol.)

He finally gave up trying to get the rest of us to apply for global entry. I think 2 of my other brothers did it after hid request, but he’s the one constantly flying though.
