Sorry, still makes no sense. What is standing in their way, a "big name" lawyer"? What is going to "legally obliterate" the PN/Fiscalia? He has been named a "person of interest", he can't leave the DR.
The comment was a simple hypothetical. I think Jose was stating in the case this went to trial. I'm not trying to read minds, that's just how I interpreted it.

Correct, he will soon have the basis to leave the DR unless it can be shown legally there is a reason to keep holding him which in turn would require a basis to keep him from a legal aspect.

@keepcoming We'll get nowhere splitting hairs over phrases in sentences all day. I am not on trial and neither are you. His lawyers told him not to answer 8 questions - nothing wrong with that, they are doing their job. The other side also has to do their job exceptionally well in a high profile case if they believe he is a suspect and need a justification to keep him around longer and that extends to any potential prosecution where scant evidence exists (and is potentially tampered with or lost ie "stolen" hotel key card etc). This is my own personal view. You are completely at liberty to disagree or term them senseless if elaboration is of no use or benefit.

Going back to my case where I had 40 stitches in my head from his machete and it was clearly self defense. My lawyer was with me in the hospital when the police came. He told me that I don't speak or understand Spanish and let him handle this. I already gave him all the details. Did this make me guilty too?.................Just good representation as statements can be a large problem in any translation here and you can be misquoted and charged.................

That incident must have been very traumatic for you and your family. I'm sorry to learn about this.

How does that work? His friend has probably already left. Will they still charge him double?
Well if the original reservation that was paid in advance expired than it is up to the hotel. Some hotels have single rates and some do not. I would say he paid nothing in this incident.........

I'm not so sure this guy will be leaving anytime soon. Look how long they kept that Canadian airline crew here. They were never charged and it was pretty obvious to anyone with half a brain that they weren't involved in smuggling the cocaine.

Not at all, silence at times is the best defense whether one is guilty or not. This is even more important when the legal system doesn't have the best of reputations.

His contradictory statements lend to both his possible innocence or guilt. Let's not get caught up in the hypotheticals. Cases are lost all over the world because of inept prosecution and well prepared defense teams and vice versa - that is all. One doesn't bring a knife to a gun fight, one certainly can, but what are the odds? That's all there is to it.

Out of curiosity, who picks the tab when one is prevented from leaving?

One small difference . (sarcasm)
You actually SHOT and Killed Someone , in self defense al be it.. and we are certainly Glad you survived your attack.

This Young Man, OTOH, who you have been defending since the story broke, did NOTHING of the sort .
He was not even a Witness to the DROWNING itself ,
In fact He states he SAVED her From Drowning.

And a Drowning, you very strongly suggested was the ONLY Plausible Explanation

Or have you forgotten all of your Previous Posts already ?
Don't worry, we will be here to remind you .

No chance he is paying $50,000 US for a Dominican lawyer. Not even close. ..........
Sorry, I meant to say if it is correct. I agree, no way are they paying 50K for a lawyer in the DR. But if by chance it is true then that's a problem.

50,000 pesos is more likely. That is what I paid 21 years ago...........But the peso was at 13 I recall.....

I was talking in reference to NEEDING A LAWYER

YOU NEEDED a Lawyer, as you clearly shot someone , no matter the reason at the time.

Your Innocent Life Saver Student should NOT have needed a Lawyer ..

Since there is no Body, and no murder ..( accoding to you )

I cant believe I have to literally spell this stuff out for you ..

but there it is

I can use larger Fonts if you like ?
