Have you ever thought about becoming a "Cat Herder"???? ;)
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

"ZAP" the First Step in "Change",is to recognize that there is a "Problem"!
Not saying that you don't want to hear about the "Problem"!
THAT is what Dominicans do! (See,I said "DO"minicans)
I will never say the "DU" word again!
Far be it for me to offend anyone! Actually,I defer to a more "STABLE" mind,"HB"!
If I say that Dominican women should learn to "Close Their Legs!"That may offend some people, but if fewer young, uneducated,"dominicanas",with no job,no,stable future, and NO WAY to provide, care for,or educate a child,"CLOSED THEIR LEGS" would every Dominican be better off???
"Birth Control 101" should start in pre-school here!
CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC

Yes... the first step in change is to recognize there is a problem. You're right. I am thinking however that eight pages and then some I'm sure of the big debate on whether your original post was/is offensive could have very well been nipped in the bud with a simple comment before the post began as I mentioned. (some would consider 8+ pages to be a useless problem in itself) I frankly don't care one way or another whether the suggestion is used or tossed aside.
But I DO see a lot of hypocrisy around these parts depending on who the poster is and what is done about it. And I've only been a member a little over a month IF that. Don't get me wrong, I love these boards & appreciate that they are here. That being said, in the posting guidelines the first two rules are:

1. While debate and discussion is fine, we will delete any post that is rude, insulting, contains a personal attack or is inflammatory.
2. Posters should post in a way that is respectful to other users.

Now of course it also states these are guidelines for "New Posters" ~ so maybe the rule doesn't apply after you've been here for a certain length of time?? I realize that 'offending' is not the exact same thing as 'insulting' b/c one is more 'intentional' than the other... so maybe that's where the loophole comes into play rather than the whole 'veteran poster status' and assuming the posters intent?

We can go on and on about this whole thing & make "More jokes" as we go but IMO, it's getting a little old already.

I personally thought the majority of the original post was humourous... not all, but most. (just for the record) But do bear in mind that when you generalize, even if there's truth to it, there are bound to be some who disagree & feel offended.

Talk about bored! Anyhow, was reading some of CC's old posts and there are a lot of them, read he was awarded the Silver Star so that pretty much eradicates any "rude" posts in my book

hahaha love this thread, if you cant join em, bash em!!! lol

What's the deal with turning on the a/c and leaving the door wide open??
Or opening a 2L bottle and tightening the cap just enough so you think its closed... flat Coke or a spilled bottle everytime...
Same thing with the ham and cheese, if they dont rip the plastic off of it, they dont cover it at all...hard and dry ham and cheese a few hours later....
Car doors... i know this one idiot, everytime he steps in a car, he doesnt close the door behind him all the way...
Survey ladies knock on the door a good 15 minutes and keep on knocking even after you wave them off.... sh!t, you're getting paid to sit through that bs, I should get paid as well...
Idiots driving behind me blazing the horn because ive lifted off the gas half a block before the traffic light that has turned red (inside lane nowhere to go but sit at the red light).
I'd say 90% of Dominicans are in lala land 90% of the time.... Most just dont think about what they're doing, what they're going to do, etc.

How many times have you been driving behind them and they "all of a sudden" realize they want to take a left or a right (almost daily occurrence)... im from Florida so I know "bad drivers" but these people are just ridiculous. Thankfully most Dominicans have fast reaction times and most accidents can be avoided but sheeeesh...

Oh and how about cashiers who cant do simple math?? Total comes to 525RD so I hand her 1025RD expecting a 500 peso bill back...Poor girl almost had an aneurism trying to figure out why I handed her the extra 25 pesos... Felt kinda bad for that one cause she was kind of cute... lol

Ah and students, they take the cake. I know three architecture students, 1 from UNIBE and the others from UNPHU. You see them freak out before (and after) these big exams but do you see them studying hours on hours, no, they use their time to make cheat sheets and always scheming to get the answers to the exams programmed to their cell phones. Cheating in school in the country is the norm, not the exception. Out of 100s of high school and university students that ive met in this country, i'd say without a doubt that less than 10 of those same people are serious about their education and make an effort to study. Less than 10!?!?!!? That is the future of this "grand" country....

"ZAP", "LIFE",Is NOT Fair!

Some threads are like a "Train Wreck"!
You hate what you see,but you keep "lookig" in spite of yourself!

Which brings us to yet another Dominican "Fetish!

The Absolutely and Positively LUUUUUUUV to see dead people!!!
In person,on TV,in magazines,you name it,they love it!

Try and drag a Dominican away from a fatal accident.Better bring a lunch!

No, he lives in SD with his wife and kids, plus family members.
It's imposible to build a picture of CC from his posts, so don't even bother.

But I will blow his horn a little for him...

He's a super nice guy, wicked sense of humor and has lots of funny stories. Decorated Vietnam vet (Silver Star and Purple Heart) and has done more in helping everyday Dominicans in his previous employment that most of us could ever do in our lifetime. He's lived and worked here for 15+ years, so has some very unique cultural insights, 99% of them spot on!

I have Dominican friends that get a good laugh out of some of his posts, as they know they are 100% true!

Doesn't matter. It is a private board, the guidelines are only guidelines on any private board. If you need to read posting guidelines then you haven't quite got the gist of it. It's not bad considering the amount of regular posters who pretty much command the regular posting, less than 25 people keep the general traffic moving through this board so in the big picture it's not a bad bunch. A few fruit loops, but it appears fruit loops with good hearts and no bad intention so ..........

Allow me to add some fuel to the fire ;)

Most of you foreigners escaped your collective countries because of the free life style you say you found in the DR and now you're slowly trying to change the DR into the one you came from starting with trying to teach Dominicans to close things. Ha!

Drink and drive, throw away that toilet seat, why are you trying to change the country when you loved it with all it's warts? It must be true, how many posts can you find that say " I love the country and it's culture even after only one trip? :cheeky:

To add to what Robert said, if my memory hasn't failed me, CC was a combat medic in Vietnam.

Here's a little story that gives insight into how we need to change our thinking about the little things while in the DR-

I had some brand-new underwear stolen from one of the places I recently stayed in by the housekeeper, likely for her surly, man-ape of a son who's probably never worn good-quality drawers in his life and never will again once they use Cloro to wash them.

I can just see him now impressing the hell out of his little girlfriend when he strips for her 5 minutes of bliss, prancing about the dirt floor of their shack in his Jockey shorts "de alta calidad".

Moral of the story-it's not the housekeeper's fault for being a thief; it's my fault for not locking everything up. I'm sure she was thinking what a pendejo these foreigners are for not securing their stuff wherever they go.

And yes, she was a very nice lady, good-humored and always up for a laugh.

"Santiago",Either You Bring Back My "Strainer,ooooorr...

I will file a "Demanda" against you with the "Fiscalia"!!!!

Don't forget that if you want to become "Platanado" here in the DR,you MUST throw away all the covers on anything that uses batteries!!!
Then you must use tape to hold the batteries in place!

Then you must throw away about half of all drawer pulls and handles.
If you have any plastic food containers left, set them on the hot stove,so hole can be melted in the bottoms, then throw away the covers! Got That???

I have three tanks for cooking "Gas". That way when they are ALL empty,I only have to make one trip to the station to refill all of them. See how smart they are? Always thinking of how to save me $$$$$$$$

Could someone come to my house and flush all my toilets everyday,I'm getting tired of that.

And while you are here, could you fallow my father-in-law around and pick his cigarette butts off the floor?
Don't bother to bring an ashtray,I already tried THAT!

One night, when only he and I were home,he got REALLY "$HIT FACED". I couldn't believe he could walk.I was sitting in the dark living room when he decided he had to Pee,He mistakenly opened the front door,NOT the bathroom door. As he swayed to and fro,he also mistakenly, thought he had taken his penis out of his pants. He proceeded to PI$$ his pants, from the inside!!! I am STILL laughing at that one!
Why do I stay here?
Where you gonna see $hit like that anywhere else!!!

I had one housekeeper who was just too campesina for words...some of the sh*t she would do....
I rarely went into the backyard but once I bought a pool for the kids and went to take it out back to fill it up and, lo and behold, underneath the window of the kitchen was a pile of old food (rice, beans, chicken bones...). Ants and bugs crawling all over it! She had been scraping the plates out the window instead of using the trashcan that was less than a foot away from her in the kitchen!

I went to the kitchen to cook some eggs one day.

But, before I could cook them, I had to go get a hammer to flatten out the frying pan.
The gas stove appears to only have 2 settings with some Dominicans: Off or Fully On

When My First Stove "Died" From Abuse,I Thought......

I'll buy a really good stove.I bought a Maytag. Sealed burners, electric starters, everything. As the last poster said,Dominicans can ONLY cook on "HIGH". Consequently, everything boils over, and is burned into the stoves' top.My maid "Fixed" that. She took a screwdriver and a hammer, and busted off all those "sealed" burners.(I should give her some credit for using tools, and not a knife and another pan as a hammer!) Then she ripped off those pesky wires,so she could wash the (No Longer Sealed) burners!!!
When I bought a new Maytag refrigerator my wife told the maid to "clean" the outside surface. She DID! With a steel wool pad. Got it really "shinny". Down to the bare metal in some spots!
MORAL here: Buy the cheapest, crappiest things you can find, they will destroy whatever you buy anyway, and you won't feel so bad if you spend less money!

I always laugh at these threads... the things people come up with... all true and most seen at some point or other..

But really most Dominicans do want to improve, just show them the way without being overbearing and most will follow, as long as they can see the results..
