I think people here have read and understood the article perfectly well. The article says that a significant volume of Haiti's mass consumer goods comes from or via the DR, and stopping this will clearly be detrimental to Haitian people. As if they don't have enough problems already.

I don't think that's true. Dominicans have not been able to renew their cedula for some time, pending the new cedulas, but for Residency you still have to do it. At least, my friend did a couple of months ago.

I agree that a lot more should be done to improve the roadworthiness of vehicles (especially heavy ones) and prosecute bad driving and disregarding laws. But they already use radars and fines for speeding and say that cameras are being brought in.

I just sold an apartment building at a reasonable profit on what I paid for it, and spent fourteen years living there free of charge. If you're not looking to make a killing, but just to have a reasonably comfortable life, it can work out OK investing here.

El Hijo de Mangu, who had to change his username here because of being previously unwelcome, thinks he knows everything about England and doesn't miss a chance to knock it. But it seems he's never heard of the Reds. He apparently loves jellied eels though.
