Well,
Some would walk their horses to the pasture and desperately try to rent their three units.
In the afternoon they would stimulate the economy and have a coffee and cheesecake, which of course at the moment is not safe to do.:(

Very lively discussion and I'm still catching up. This post by L.T. caught my attention for a couple of reasons.

1. I'm NOT desperate NOR do I need to rent anything. My point was that tourist are down and the why they are not returning. I don't depend on rentals at all.

2. Not in your post but I'll address someone else concerning my land/property values dropping. Not an issue. Yes, I have property for sale but have NO need to sell. I bought a long time ago and even with current market prices dropping I'm still good. Way before the real estate "flippers" moved in during the early 2000 time. Some/many got really hurt when prices went south.

2A. I own horses. They require a lot of care, food, equipment, training, stalls, pastures, staff, land management... get the picture? I'll not say more on this.

3. Walking into town for a cup of coffee and cheesecake? That would be right back 10 years ago when we DID walk from Playa Chiquita into downtown Sosua. Some times coffee, sometimes walking in the evenings and shopping, having a drink and dinner. About 5 times a week. Now....... zip.... zero...... nada.

4. Likes to dislikes? 8 thumbs up and 1 thumbs down. Perhaps some people here should start listening. Perhaps a compromise could be reached with understanding and respect. Difficult ... but might be do-able?

Is that what they say they are, models? A lightbulb just went off in my head.

We have a niece in SD who is about 20 now, studying law. She is tall with a perfect figure. At a family gathering, she came in with her brothers and parents, greeted us each individually with hugs and kisses. I told her how nice she looked, that she could be a model. Her father, Mr. AE's brother, reacted immediately and snapped at me that she wasn't going to be a model, she was going to be a lawyer. Later I asked my husband why he reacted that way, that I thought it was a compliment, and he didn't know. Of course, he hasn't lived in DR for almost 40 years. Now I understand that my BIL probably took it as an insult. After all these years, I'm still learning.

STILL way behind from last night. Our main man Amado, been with us over 5 years, that has been studying for to be a school teacher for 4 years now wants to be a lawyer. I support Amado 100%. While at a court hearing a couple of days ago I introduced him to some of the staff of Guzman Ariza... ??? sorry about spelling, I know then by first names.

Anyway. The meeting was a little "cool" with our atty and staff but we have at least cracked the door for Amado. A.E., we learn and do what we can and hope for the best.

Nobody is talking about 'governing' these people. We're talking about empowering them and what's wrong with a Hooker saying to a client "That's not in my contract"?

Everything. Why do you want to "empower" them? You can't empower a moron. There is little hope for these women and there is nothing you or I can do about it. If these women wanted to be empowered they should have kept their legs closed and their wombs empty. Not the business of foreigners like you trying to be a "Captain Save a Hoe." Besides, foreign men prey on these women, explain why they would want to empower them? Since when does a predator empower prey? Men like me aren't here to empower these women, we're here to exploit them, and I have, in more ways than you will ever know. ;)

You sound like a goddamned liberal, always trying to save losers who deserve to be where they are. Most of these Dominican women wouldn't know how to read or write a contract, from what I read a considerable number of them are illiterate As far as I'm concerned they can stay that way, otherwise they will transform into the North American feminist b*tch that we all "love" so much.

A very good point DS. So many want to defend and even offer other possible opportunities. But it comes down to individual responsibility and unless the "Johns" either stop paying and supporting, the girls have NO motive for any change. A quick buck for a quick ... and the John is hooked cause he got lucky.

How to change the hookers. I DON'T GIVE A DANG anymore!

It appears that some others don't give a hoot about the "poor working girls" either. Nor do we care about the poor expat sex tourist that is here taking advantage.

And what many of these people on DR1 won't admit is that a lot of these girls are playing these foreign men, getting multiple Western Union transfers from like 10 dudes they are supposedly "in love with." I have a book here at home written by a WOMAN that did research on Dominican hoes. Most of these stupid sluts don't love these foreign men, they just use them for their money while getting knocked up by "Jose" who runs off and won't raise his kids. And you've got foreign men(some right here on DR1), who are retarded enough to "sign up" to become step dads for these women's kids, even though these women ain't carrying their babies for 9 months? And I've had these Dominican girls, with like 5 kids, up in my face trying to get me to become a step dad and I politely give them the same answer each time: fuk off.

I read one story about a German dude, who after vacationing in the DR, went back to Germany and continued sending money to this Dominican slut. I mean this dude was paying this chick's rent, put her up in a nice place, got her out of the shack. Meanwhile she is fking a Dominican boyfriend behind his back and when he comes to the DR her Dominican boyfriend moves out temporarily so it looks like she is living alone, I mean how stupid can you be? Yes, a message to all you men here on DR1 who want to be boyfriends and sugar daddies for these hoes, most of them are banging other dudes behind your back. Those of you who become step dads to these Dominican kids are even more retarded.

Forget the hooker unions, forget taxing them, forget the mandatory STD tests. Do these women the way you do when you walk by one of those sleeping dogs that love laying on the sidwalks here in the DR....just walk by them and let them be. Let sleeping dogs stay asleep. Me, I'm a Social Darwinist, as far as I'm concerned these chicks can go the way of the dinosaurs. As with the DR in general, I see nothing for me to gain personally by empowering them or their country. I came to the DR to empower MYSELF.

Here's a question. How many ppl does Boca Chica employ in the service industries by a ratio of hotel rooms to jobs? What about Sosua? My bet would be that room for room, Sosua is employing twice as many people, not including the prostitution industry and far more money is pumped into the local economy per tourist.

Many family type hotels have been closed and have been for awhile. Granted, some by their own poor management that has nothing to do with the overall Sosua atmosphere. Some of the smaller hotels that don't cater to familiars are doing???? I don't know but they are for the most part still in operation.

From the tone of your posts, I was going to ask you the same question. ;) Seriously, do you really think you can save these whores? You can't, so why bother? They were like this before you or I got here and they will be like this after we're gone. This country is what it is, the DR has always been like this. These threads about "saving Dominican hookers" are amusing if not pathetic. You'd think after going through generations of the same thing Dominicans would learn to save themselves.

Wait, let me guess! You're a Democrat, right? No way a Republican would talk the way you talk, about "empowering Dominican whores." You've gotta be a Dem, gotta be. You guys never got the memo that people can ultimately only save themselves. Social Darwinism is the reality whether you want to accept it or not. These Dominican hoes, as well as their country itself, is the way it is because the people here brought it on themselves. If they wanted things to be better bad enough, they'd make it that way. Apparently they don't.

Well said D.S.
So basically it boils down to free will! Free will to change....free will to continue on as before.

Surely a well-read and astute young man like D_S understands that free will is an illusion. Where one is born, at what time in history, to whom, among how many siblings, into what economic situation, with which physical, mental and emotional strengths and weaknesses affects us all in ways we aren't even aware of. He that has has no reason to boast and he that has not should not wallow in shame. There's nothing we possess that we haven't been given.

How can you save someone that does NOT want to be saved?!

How many times have you heard of storys where a Gringo has tried to help a local, and then after a while this good-doer has found out he/her has been playing him all along. These people only want FREE money so they can buy a new and (important) EXPENCIVE car just to ruin it- so when all the money are spent on stupidity, it is off to Baileys or other nice place to befriend another gringo they can leech on.

And when we are speaking of these poor whores- Have it ever crossed someones mind that some of these Whores actually LIKE to work as a f?ckee??
------

Yeeees yees yes, i know: Not all are like this and and and... jadda jadda jadda etc etc.........

Prostitution isn't a human invention. Some animals even cheat their dates..

Nursery Web Spider

The male nursery web spider’s mating ritual includes a recipe for romance. He knows it takes more than just showing up on a girl’s web to mate with her, so this eight-legged Casanova goes above and beyond. The spider will take an insect that’s landed in his web and wrap it tightly in silk like a beautiful gift. Once the male nursery web spider sets his sights on a mate, he takes the silk-wrapped insect and presents it to his ladylove. While the female nursery web spider enjoys — and is distracted by — this tasty treat, the male makes his move and mates with her. Sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures, and a male spider might wrap up a non-edible object, like a small pebble, if an insect can’t be found. This gift is still accepted by the female, but the male has to act fast because she will attack when she unwraps the offering and realizes his act of deception.

So many of you guys seem to not notice that these girls play the game with the cards they were dealt, just as everybody else. And you don't realize that with the cards most of us were given we should have done much better than we actually did. Yes, you can look at the mirror and say it to yourself, because it's true. Many here who look down on DR people (or any people, really) fail to notice that they were born with so many more opportunities and advantages, and still had to come here to be the big fish in the small pond. A big fish that usually gets bitten and beaten by much smaller fish. I don't know where all that superiority complex comes from.
To those who feel so powerful and "empowered" in DR: Look at the really successful people in your country and then look at you, heck, look at the really successful people in DR and then look at you. You're basically a loser, just too full of it to notice it.
