Nope! It's just "easy money" they can make without being "ingrained" for the job.
If that was the case, there wouldn't be prostitution in Japan and believe you me, there's more going on in Japan than in the DR when it comes down to forms of prostitution, underage, etc...
Prostitution has more to do with sexual freedoms and what is deemed ok by cultures. In the DR it's OK to have a wife and kids, whilst having a few ladies on the side. It takes away the pressure from the lady of the house who has to put up with the kids, the home and sometimes their own career, let alone tend to the husband's sexual needs on call.
In Japan was the same since older times when men sought the services of a Geisha. Then came the parlors, hot baths, etc... Its still acceptable today just as before.
In places like the USA is more about hypocrisy than what not. Prostitution permeates the USA from the top of government to the plain worker. Worst than in the DR.
On paper prostitution is still illegal in Japan.
Birth rates are down, the decline in Japan's population set another record in 2012 with the number of deaths exceeding births for the sixth year in a row.
In the DR the government is threatening a new model based on persecution as in CAN and the US, while prostitution is still legal.
From DR News 12.7.12
Too many teenage pregnancies
Despite having a Plan to Prevent Teenage Pregnancies in place over two years, the DR continues to be among the five countries with most teenage pregnancies in Latin America and the Caribbean. According to United Nations Population Fund statistics, 22.1% of Dominican teenagers are pregnant or have been pregnant. Of the total, 75% are among the economically poor. Azua (37%), Baoruco (35%) and Santiago (29%) have the highest pregnancy rates. The study showed that 50% of the teenagers do not use any method of birth control.
The cultural net effect is, the poor in the DR suffer due to the lack of education and money, quite a different story than Japan..
Dominicans openly enjoy sex without the hypocrisy of the USA and Canada.
Condoms and contraception are available but often not used for various reasons.
As far as I know tubal ligation is not legal in the DR for women without health problems.
