Totally agree ...you could not even think of putting a young child with a roaring temperature on to a plane ..the Dominican hospitals know what they are doing so the most important thing is IMMEDIATELY getting a child to the hospital for the treatment . The deaths are those who waited too long to seek hospital treatment ...it is the same situation as we had with the cholera out break when people died because they didi not go to hospital early for simple anti biotic treatment.

1.25%, actually. what is scary thou is that about half of those deaths happened within one month.

today vice minister criticized doctors for not knowing how to manage their cases and not checking thoroughly their patients in order to make a diagnosis. http://www.elcaribe.com.do/2015/10/...os-saben-tratar-pacientes-con-sintomas-dengue

this is referring to public hospitals, i assume, since most deaths happen there. patients in private clinics have access to a wider range of tests and treatments.

No wrong assumption..poor people go to the hospital with dengue far too late . It is the same situation as we had with dengue when people needlessly died because they sought treatment too late . The public hospitals can offer the same treatment as private hospitals but in less hygenic and less comfortable conditions . Poor diagnosis can occur in public and private hospitals and can be difficult to give a corect diagnosis to a crying two year .
The reason I was told to treat myself at home was that there was no space for me in hospital ..which is another problem doctors are facing

People do die from Dengue and that is tragic. But what about those who don't die from Dengue? Are there long terms negative affects from bone-break fever? Loss of education, employment, development?

Author: Cornelia Mota 26/10/2015 2:09:53 pm

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic.-
Hospitals of Greater Santo Domingo still packed with patients with dengue. Meanwhile, the government announced this weekend for the start of a day of elimination of mosquito vector breeding sites throughout the country.

The measure is adopted at a time when the death toll from the disease round nearly 100 people. In the children's hospital Robert Reid Cabral entered this weekend 24 new cases of dengue, with totaling 46 children hospitalized there for the disease.Meanwhile, Hugo Mendoza in 35 children are hospitalized and the hospital Vinicio Calventi 10 people are hospitalized with dengue, including four children and six adults.

At a time when the country illness clothes, President Danilo Medina instructed his ministers to do more to cope with the situation. However, health unions say the dengue has got out of hand to the authorities.

In that sense, Rafael Sandoval, president of the Health Coordinator, and Waldo Ariel Suero, president of the Dominican Medical College (CMD) were made.According to the bulletin of epidemiological week number 40 of the Ministry of Health, about 97 people have died from the disease so far this year there have been more than 10,000 cases for the same period.

Have a friend whose mother is an infectiologue and she informed that the total death toll is 300 with Dengue and in order not to scare tourists they are declaring death toll very very low.

at which hospital is she working and where does she get her total dead number from,
as it is obviously not as such number shown in the papers of the health ministry?
Motha of a Fren says
can be a dangerous thing.

to see people walking right within the fumigation cloud.
what should kill the flying buggers instantly i would not like to breath that way.

i have seen few headlines about campo workers dying after accidental inhalation of insecticide.
