For some people, and i am including myself in this demographic, it is too dangerous to drive at night. Especially after a few drinks, and in my case I have a lot of problems with Night GLARE
I can no longer tolerate those idiotic High Beams, so I choose to not put my drunk ass in harms way so recklessly.
And Im not sure if this was brought up before.. but closing down one town at 12, and 3 am next town over , in such a Lawless country as the DR, absolutely ENCOURAGES drinking and Driving.
That is just beyond ridiculous.

Or maybe you were saying they should have STAYED ? in Cabarete instead, and spent all their money there .. Yes, that is certainly a logical Option..

Hi Harley, I own Midtown Sosua Restaurant. We are inside the Las Palmeras Hotel(formely Don Antonio hotel) We have both, great food and Service at very reasonable prices. The problem is that 98% of the hotel guests are single men. Obviously they will stop coming if the girls are forced out. And it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that eventually the hotel will fail as well. I wish expats and other visitors would come more frequently. The ones that do ALWAYS come back again for the previously mentioned food and service. Unfortunately, There are too many restraunts to compete with if we don't have the single guys in town. Busines 101 really!

Of course you can but then again they probably come here for day time on a tropical beach and then the night life. No problem for them since there are a plethora of other destinations that will satisfy both.

I wonder is any of the Brainiacs in the Dom Govt and the Ministry of Tourism have taken the time to study or even think about how Hard it is to get Couples like this to come BACK to the Dom Republic, once a bad taste has been left in their mouths , and by something so Silly ?
Or are they content in just assuming that next Trip these same couples will simply book in Cabarete, or Punta Cana , etc..? and therefore nothing is lost.

When an first started visiting gthe DR, I didn't leave the hotel untilll 11:30 pm!!!

Every night I close up at midnight or 2am and drive past Cabarete and Sabaneta and they are still partying hard, it is starting to get really annoying. Boo!! I hate kicking people out at midnight.

It might have just been the final straw. I've heard of people never returning to places for less. My sister went to Puerto Vallarta once and was so put off by the beach vendors that she has never returned to Mexico. They go to Destin instead.

When it comes to people and their money, some people won't let a nickel go unless things are exactly like they want them.

In the scheme of things the north coast is no longer much of a player regarding tourism. As has been said several times, some people suffer during urban renewal plans. Some are saying we are in the middle of such a plan regarding Sosua. Some have mentioned a goal of a retirement community with a few AI resorts mixed in.

I was hanging with 2 Canadian couples last night. They are leaving today and said they were never coming back. They said they did not go on vacation to end their night at 12am.

If the quality and enjoyment of their vacation is predicated upon being able to patronize a bar/restaurant/disco/club, etc. in Sos?a after 12am . . .

. . . I certainly don't blame them.

Don't rely on expats for your restaurant to survive. Worse advice a local will give you. It's crap. Most of the expats here have no money or are cheap and only come in during happy hour and then complain. Cater to the tourists, they are the gravy. Those expats that do support you are gold...keep them!

I always ask my clients (which the majority are single guys) if this is their first time and Sosua. Last week in particular I had many saying "yes", I also always ask them what they think. ALL of them ALWAYS say how amazing and crazy Sosua is, they are in awe and are planning their next trip. Not once was the early closing time mentioned, cause they go home after closing and continue. So for these newbies, Sosua is awesome. 5 years ago to a newbie, it was awesome, 10 years ago to a newbie it awesome.....see the cycle???

I personally hate the new closing times because I am aware of the impact it has on the local economy, but the average joe traveler doesn't care. Beach, party, sleep.

The obvious solution is for llana to introduce a town ordinance that requires all people within town limits to set there clocks ahead 4 hours. Midnight is now 4:00 am.
