The beach vendor have an entirely different situation with the plan to move all vendors to buildings at the ends of the beach, if and when that plan ever actually happens. Are the powers that be still thinking about that?

You misread. My post was that the majority were behind the changes 100%. I didn't say that 100% of Dominicans were behind it.

Yes, the beach vendors don't want any changes. But it's coming. The beach vendors and pc biz owners need to prepare for it.

Yes, all of the businesses must go to make room for the condos.

This will be the spike in the heart of the one free and unmatched attraction on the North Coast for tourists and locals and even mongers who come for the beach. The buses will stop coming from Santiago, for sure families who came because they can pick a spot in front of their favorite shack and watch their children play in a gentle surf while connecting to WiFi will have to try another place (like Punta Cana) .
And will the condos be anything more than weekend retreats from the wealthy in Santo Domingo ? The ones who come and wall things off because they don't trust the dark skinned Dominicans?
We've seen this before and it won't end well for businesses who depend on foreign money, be it pesos, euros, or dollars coming from other places.
The condo owners won't go out for each meal and will choose to drink their own bottle on the balcony overlooking a once great playground.
Playero may be a winner but even then they may become losers.

The fix is in, the money has bribed the right officials and Sosua is on hospice watch.

If I were on vacation, it would be too far. imo

Considering that most sane Tourists do NOT rent Cars on their first couple trips, and as was said most dont want to use Motos,
Yes that is quite a FAR WALK, especially if there are other Hotel Options, with a VIEW of the Ocean perhaps.
For an Expat , or someone who lives there its probably a preferred location to be away from the mayhem,. but is you are a Hotel attracting Beach Goers ?
They would need to provide a Shuttle Service. Cuz the Taxis would surely overcharge all their guests, Like they do to and from Charamicos / El Batey.

Can someone help me out here... I am confused.
Which is it?

Are the Tourists (with the Monger/Chicas) coming out earlier to “save” the Bars
(sorry the Restaurants, I don't know why I think they're Bars)
or
Are the Monger/Chicas not coming out earlier...
Just Tourists come out earlier because Sosua is a Family Holiday Nirvana
(I really don't want to watch the Monger/Chicas during my meal with my Wife)

I'm sorry, but I did not fail stats in College,, so then you are conceding that the Percentage of people who actually support these changes as low as 25.00167 % , not sure how far you want to go with significant figures ,but lets say its 60K people in Sosua.

Mongers don't come much in summer - The cooler weather will be the time to decide, but I know the word has spread and so they most likely are looking for the next playfround.
May I recommend Boca Chica ? Go there and take your towels over your shoulders to stroll down their dirty streets.
FYI the girl are real aggressive there - even the ugly find love.

You Puritans don't understand........

A drunk can wander aimlessly for hours.....
no cares as to time, place , direction....

They just look for place that serves beer & food on the side.......not the reverse.

hahaha

If what the authorities have done by setting the hours to 12 midinight weekdays and 3 AM (not sure of the exact weekend time) on the weekends is illegal as some insist, then why are the business owners not challenging this in a court of law where it can be settled without any doubt instead of holding meetings?

Because it was not illegal, despite what some dr1 posters might believe.

Presidential Decree 308-06 which was implemented on 24 July 2006, clearly states in Article 1, the operating hours for businesses selling alcohol in the Dominican Republic. Until 12:00am Sunday through Thursday, 2:00am Friday and Saturday.

http://www.mip.gob.do/images/docs/Programas/Coba/DecretoNo.308-06.pdf

Here is a photo of a copy of the decree, this was the actual document that business owners on Pedro Clisante were given the day the directive was handed down from the government.

rm0ghg.jpg

The business owners are asking for dispensation to remain open BEYOND the legal operating hours, they are not questioning the legality of Decree 308-06. They feel persecuted since business owners in Cabarete and Puerto Plata have been granted this dispensation.

The reason for the meetings . . . many of the members of the associations love to hear themselves pontificate about their rights and the Dominican Constitution. And last night's meeting was no different, more ridiculous rhetoric.

So then by definition
SOSUA is " NOT " A Tourist Town ?? ... say it , i want to hear you say it..

cuz this Govt propaganda is just getting ridiculous and nauseating.
do you really think all Gringos are this stupid.

by the way Leonel is no longer in Power., (and yes i know you know that)

And I was in Puerto Plata the very NIGHT that Decree took effect, was just heading out for the night in fact at 10Pm., and the entire population of Puerto Plata did not believe it was happening
and they all thought it was ridiculous , it was a TEMPORARY Decree as I recall..
I Dont recall the reason for it being implemented..

And yes, overweight couch potato tourists find walking more than 350 steps on uneven sidewalks in the sun an intensely objectionable experience to be avoided at all costs. Motos are usually too small for these folks so a taxi stand outside would be helpful. Know your customers...

They do . . .

That's not their targeted demographic.

Prepare to have hungry children? or maybe start developing android apps?

If you had a small restaurant at the beach with a good following, and you see these changes unfolding - you had better prepare so you're children don't go hungry.

You better be at the meetings, making sure you don't get short changed on the new location, plenty of bathrooms, plenty of shade, as close to the action as possible, make sure the current vendors don't get priced out of the new location, etc. That's how smart biz owners react, especially if they're squatting on the land in question.

If your plan of action is to lay down in front of the dozer, then yeah, you might have hungry kids.

Wow, I guess the people who are making the single largest investment in Sos?a in many years should have consulted you two.

Look, this isn't Willy trying desperately to open his latest disco on Pedro Clisante. This is a group of serious investors who will be spending multiple millions of dollars converting La Esplanada into a modern hotel. This is no small project. La Esplanada as it stands has almost 250 rooms in nine separate buildings apart from the reception building and restaurant.

I think they have some idea as to the proximity of their property to Sos?a beach and also as to what their guests' perception might be.

It's only Sosua.

Yes it is, and perhaps that 100 meter section of Pedro Clisante from City Lights to Club X, which has turned into a virtual sh1thole, won't drag the rest of Sos?a down with it.

Even if the mayor can snap her fingers and the prositities gone; what about the scam artist. Ok, family eating at restaurant on P C and guy walks up to husband wants to sell viagra, how long will these families be around. Puns Cana was cut out of a jungle so they could plan it the way they wanted. Families will never come to Sosua.
