There is hope.

So i have an strange situation, i won a skullcandy headphones though auction on ebay, for us 97, the retail price of these are 170 us, so in any case product no near 200 us, they got to miami in 3 days and they went through the airlines just fine, but it was retained in aduana here, i send the receipt and it says is on discussion with aduana, it's been like that for 3 days so far, should i get worried? is there anythign i can do other than just waiting? any suggestions?

There is not much you can do except pest the courier to check with customs often.
We had a tablet sitting with customs for 5 weeks (193.90 USD on Ebay).
CPS did all they could.
Finally customs released it without charging duty.

Tax on computers was 17% or 18% last time I checked.

US$5,000 x 0.18 = US$900 in taxes.

25 lbs. x US$3.80/lb. = US$95

Almost US$1,000 to ship that computer.

Much cheaper to fly to the US an buy it.

I purchased a $450 laptop and was charged around the same for duties.

I was expecting to pay a lot more and was happily surprised when I saw the final bill.

Alianza Dominicana de Defensa de los Consumidores y Usuarios is backing this? They are not representing the people.

I hope they push so hard they decide the raise it from $200 to $500 since what they want is counterproductive to the economical growth of this country.

If people could import cheap(er) computers without impuestos and put them in the campos to help educate the resulting benefits out way taxing EVERYTHING like what they want to do.

Hi guys,

just in the process of thinking to buy a Herman Miller Aeron office chair to maybe solve my back and neck problems...

On ebay NEW 550 US$ + Duty and Vat = x 1.38 % ... + 8500 pesos shipment... WOW, it's about 1000 US$ for a chair that
costs a half of that.

Asked an estimate to a seller in the Capital it's about 1100 USD.

Here the government is learning fast from other countries, they want to eat... everywhere, and they don't know where to suck money in this pour country, so, let's tax private people that has enough to import items.

They spend the more money they can to get their personal percent in every public work. They ask money to U.S. to have more to spend in many unnecessary public works to get the excuse to raise taxation saying "we have a public debt".
I'm Italian, I really really, really know this types of things, and I'm sure here politicians are doing their best to develop themselves (but the population) and learning very well how to do it.

PC for education?!?! And why do they want people to get educated!?? So maybe people will better understand politician are only "ladrones" and puppets paid by the "finance mafia" all over the world???!!?
Noooooo, it's really a lot better for them people remains ignorant. (This process is worldwide I think).

Hey, this is a bi-partisan post, I mean all politicians are like that, not only on one side.

Bye, Jazz21.

So you paid $450 for the computer and $450 in taxes-fees and shipping to bring it over to the DR? I believe the tax on computers is only the 18% ITBIS and nothing else.

So was that $12,000 DOP in addition to the $250 that you paid on Amazon-or was that the net total?

No, sorry for the confusion. I was responding to CC's post saying I paid the same in tax as he did.

I paid about RD$1,000 in taxes when I thought it was going to be much more.
