Claro does have unlimited calling in the DR. But it is only to other Claro numbers, both cell and landline. But this is only on Post paid cell accounts.

Yes, it in the other mentioned countries its unlimited calls to all networks (not all cell plans, of course).

if you have data turned on and no data plan or prepaid paquetico, your 200 pesos will be gone before your first whatsapp actualization is complete... that is with ALL THREE providers.

How does this work with Claro? How can I find out what rates they are charging me? Is there a way I can have Claro just cancel this automatic "take my money" deal?

Let's say my original data package runs out. I don't realize I have used up my Gb and need to buy another package. Why can't I have Claro just shut off my internet until I buy another package? This is a straight out ripoff.

Just turn off data on your cell and they cannot charge you.

OK, so if i turn off data I will still be able to use the prepaid data package I purchased and when that runs out no more internet?

I buy a three day three Gb package so don't I need data turned on to use this package? My problem when the package runs out Claro seems to take the liberty to keep me connected but charges me without asking.......... of course as long as I have a balance in my prepaid account.

If your data is off and you buy a package you will have internet when you turn on your data, if you buy a 3 days package of Data when you finish the 3 Gb you have to turn off manually your data. Thats why im happy with VIVA, do not need to do that, when I dont have package no internet service untill i buy a new one without having turn on and off the data option.

That's actually not true, Riva. I put 150 on Viva card, activated the 135 pesos package, used it for a week, and at the end my balance on Viva card was 0. When the package ran out, they kept me charging every MB. That's on Apperisimo Prepago card.

True that with any data plan you must have data turned on. But when the plan is over you must turn it off immediately. If it is off you cannot be charged for data, unless of course the company is just plain robbing you.

Weird, first unlimted packages cost 145.00 for 7 days. How long it was? They had problems with some updates and that was happening some months ago but they solved the problem. If your line is doing that you must call and tell them that your line using your credit for data when you dont buy paquetico, If you ask other users will tell you they dont have that problem. I dont have it and none of my friends that also use prepaid with viva.

Seems a company like T-Mobile could come in to the DR, buy Altice, and offer a real plan for unlimited messaging, voice and data for say $45 per month and have everyone's business that actually spends more than that on the prepaid ripoffs going on now.

Claro is better than Altice but I paid for the 2GB plan which under triple play I'd supposed to give me 6GB but it only shows 4GB. They were supposed to fix that but haven't.

It's the little ripoffs here that convince many to give up.

Some people have roaming packages with T-Mobile as thier only DR service. Not sure what it costs but if it was unlimited it might be worth paying more.

We had Altice internet which didnt work for us. We went to their offices and waited and waited and waited about 10 times. They said they would send someone. Never did. They they called to collect money after we stopped paying. They said we never contacted them.

You have to remember when your data plan is finished and turn the data off on or before the day it expires so they cant take all your money you have left. Then get another package and then turn it on . I think this is how it works

T-Mobile offers unlimited free text and data in over 100 countries, including DR. Voice calls are $.20 a minute, about the same as a prepaid call from Claro, etc. WhatsApp calls free with the data. I used it exclusively last trip, a few months. The speed is slower in some places. Your phone picks up whatever carrier is nearby, and Claro must be their preferred towers because that’s what I had 90% of the time. When Claro went down, Altice would take over, and it was lightning fast, in comparison. In SD I had LTE, where we live I got 2-3G.

I think I just read that the cost for calls is going up to $.25 soon

But that's not 4G speeds I don't think.

The highlighted part is how i wish Claro worked. This day and age one should not have to remember to do anything manually with a cell phone as far as turning off data when package is finished. Claro should just automatically suspend my data until I decide to buy another package.

I do understand with a postpago when you use up your allotted Gb they automatically charge you and give you additional Gb. All well and good because the person signed a contract allowing them to do this. I have prepago and never agreed to allow Claro to charge me for data unless I make the purchase.

Well, here they have been doing few things not very good for customers, today we have unlimited internet in all carriers thanks to VIVA, roaming activation and mothly fee thanks to Centennial now VIVA, No contract plans thanks to VIVA, calling to USA, Canada and PR same price as a local call thanks to VIVA, Unlimited call within network thanks to VIVA too. The big Brothers Claro and Altice didnt do nothing of those things until VIVA came out to start to offer it. So lets wait to see what will be coming out, always good when there are real competition between 3 and not when the 2 big ones get agree to suck your money with not atractive offers.

I can only speak for Claro post paid plans. Called Smart Plans. With this plan when you use data and encounter a WiFi network that you use data automatically shuts off. So you are not using your data and are switched to WiFi automatically. This works well. When you turn off WiFi the data plan takes affect. But you can always turn it off if you want.

One more thing, I have a small app on my Android to turn data on and off with one click. Better than going into your settings.

The prepago plan works the same as well with switching back and forth between Wi-Fi.

You know it wouldn't be too bad if Claro decided to just renew the same data package I had previously purchased. I could live with that with no problem...………. but NO Claro gives me the data but charges some astronomical rate as if they are doing me a big favor.
