I posted a couple of American news station reports from today. Albeit not as detailed but still casting doubt on the ladies story of the chain of events.

Bigbird, the ny post and cbs news are only quoting from what the dominican police have said. This is not their own opinion, yet. In the US reporters are allowed to a certain degree to write an impartial observation as opposed to what dominicans get to see here in DR, the government version. So US newspapers Are getting ready to attack dominican version very very soon methinks. The people who count, the tourists who will or will not decide to visit here do not like the smell this story as put out by dominican officials has taken. That is blaming the tourist . this is what is really going on. it smells of coverup by the blameless dominican police. that is the feedback we are all getting.

People have short memories. Police do a decent job when a gringo dies or gets murdered. On other matters not so much.

Home from a nightmare: Couple describes being trapped in Dominican Republic

BEAVERTON, Ore. — A Beaverton couple has returned home from what they call a nightmare in the Dominican Republic.

They say they were trapped in the country for six months.

In an exclusive interview with KATU News, John Ekman said Sunday the entire ordeal probably could've ended much sooner if he'd been willing to bribe public officials in the developing country, but he refused because he said he committed no crime.

Ekman's girlfriend, Lori Breeden, snapped a photo of him kissing the carpet at Portland International Airport Thursday after they'd finally returned home.

"I feel incredibly lucky to live in the United States of America," he said.

Ekman, a retired electrician, traveled to the Dominican Republic last November with Breeden.

It was their third trip to the country in about a year and they said it's certainly their last.

"We didn't have choice," said Breeden. "Everybody else was making decisions for us and we were voiceless."

About a week after they arrived in the country, Ekman said he was driving a rental car with Breeden late at night down a busy freeway when they hit a motorcycle that was lying in the middle of the street.

"The motorcycle just appeared out of nowhere, like, instantly," Ekman said. "I had zero time to react."

Ekman said the driver of that motorcycle was also in the street, but they didn't hit him and they believe he was already dead.

Ekman, who speaks fluent Spanish, said witnesses "were saying that this man had been hit by a truck."

The couple said they pulled off to the side of the road immediately but when police arrived, they arrested Ekman.

"They threw me in a jail that was like a 16' by 20' concrete hole with couple of gritty alcoves with wet garbage," Ekman said. "I was thrown in with five other people."

He got out in a couple of days but the government took his passport. They gave it back three weeks later but put a hold on it.

"I had my passport but I was not able to leave the country," Ekman said.

Although police could find no evidence of blood or tissue on the rental car, Ekman said he was forced to stay in the country while he got the runaround from officers and the prosecutor.

"One delay after the other," Ekman said, "and 10 days always turned into 20 and a week turns into a month."

Ekman said after the government brought in a new prosecutor, the U.S. Embassy got more deeply involved and he finally got the OK to leave.

"Even at the airport they were checking and re-checking my papers," Ekman said.

Breeden, who works as a psychotherapist, said she was able to Skype with patients while she was there but she lost two-thirds of her clients.

"It would ruin another person" who had a more typical nine to five job with two weeks' vacation, Ekman said.

The couple said they're still willing to travel abroad in the future, but if they visit any developing countries, they're not going to drive.

KATU reached out to the government of the Dominican Republic several times for this story, starting in November, and so far it has not responded.

Or she got beat somewhere else like her own hotel room and went running looking for a place to hide. She had seen the door to the crawl space open earlier so she hid in there. Beat to a pulp, scared, a little booze and she passed out for a few hours sleeping............

speculation but possible
Where is the video from the hotel? Maybe the truth and nothing but the truth is within! Whats up with this hotel and all their cameras. Or will that be the coup de gras

It is highly doubtful that whatever video the resort may have would not be released to the public until after the perp is caught, or as a tool to catch the perp.

If video exists at all.

IF there is a perp.

No police investigators just release all they know to the public.

Another thought: perhaps video does exist and this is why the resort said "no way" to the extortion demands.

I agree. I keep hearing you all talking about all the cameras covering every inch of the AIs in PC. Don’t you think if they existed we’d have heard from the hotel by now? If they DID exist in the area where she was attack, and they showed a resort employee, that video would have disappeared in a New York minute (along with the employee). If they didn’t/don’t exist, then there could be negligence by the hotel due to lack of security for their guests.

As far as the $200,000 (which isn’t a lot), I can’t believe that Americans don’t know that money is never discussed publicly during negotiations a lawsuit, which normally is a lot longer than 4 months, and that after settling most companies will demand - in writing - that the amount paid not be disclosed. I can only assume that those who don’t know that are from other countries.

Like frank12, Mr AE hopes the attacker isn’t found to be a Dominican. His comments are very close to frank12s too, except he believes they CAN solve cases when they want to. Look how fast they got the guy who attacked Margarita Cedeño’s guard. Hmmmm? Now, imagine someone important wants something swept under the rug. Everything destroyed, and when the story comes to light many months later, there is nothing to process. Is that so unbelievable?? Both frank12 and Mr AE are Dominicans, unlike the majority of the laptop cops posting here. Maybe, just maybe, they have a little better understanding of the ways of the DR.

Why aren't the lawyers lined up willing to take on her case for a percentage of a possible settlement?

Because Zero Percent of $ 00.00 Dollars , is still Zero .. so they would have to probably put up their HOUSE for a Retainer .
And besides Michael Avenatti is not really available right now, he got his own problems ..

Because laws are different in DR than USA. PC is a resort city, resorts give business to lawyers not tourists. If you have an issue with a resort casino in Vegas better find a lawyer outside of Nevada.

How do you know they’re not? Can a Delaware attorney do this? I suspect not. Maybe the most prominent Dominican attorneys are reluctant to get involved in this mess. Maybe other attorneys aren’t fluent enough in English. Maybe the woman doesn’t trust anyone in DR. Maybe , maybe, maybe. So many maybes.

How would you know that they're not?

There's still an awful lot of BS going on here. Unfounded assumptions, attacking the source or poster, blaming the victim.

Far too many of you can't seem to accept the fact, one of the very few facts in this and many other cases, that there are almost no know facts. Yet you take this as some kind of evidence or admission of guilt. What a load... ;)

I have "no dog in this fight", or should that be rooster lol, but it disgusts me to read the self important postings from so many self proclaimed logic specialists, stoics and armchair detectives who think their thinking and deductions and conclusions are unique or original. Do you REALLY believe that others could not and have not reached similar, if faulty or premature, conclusions?

Why you're all so needy and desperate to prove your apparent superiority is mindboggling...and sad. You "know" almost nothing and assume so much. Even if your by some miracle you end up "guessing" more or less correctly it's still a false victory. There has been almost no original thinking in this thread and a lot of regurgitation of the same old bull**** that gets posted in every thread about some unfortunate person or persons, incident occurrence.

Time to grow up folks....and hopefully some mod will step in and heard a few cats in this thread...or better yet follow the dv8 model and close it until something official is actually brought to light!(Yes, I miss her already! LOL)

So what some of you are saying is that the Dominican Authorities , even with President Danilo involved can NOT figure this out, and instead would rather engage in a MASSIVE Cover up ?
is that about the size of it , or did the rest of us read it wrong..

Easy Boys/Girls.... settle down

Yes CB - she had her cell phone and ultimately used it
No cash - zero missing

She refused to press charges while in the DR....supported by the US Embassy at her side

She refuses to return to pursue the issue... no charges - no interviews - no testimonies.

Apparently, she has put some time into asking for compensation.... for an event she won't put in official terms

So ---
she won't talk officially
she has tried to get compensation
no charges forthcoming - per the victim's wishes

Hotel said they did an investigation... to no avail

Hotel refuses to pay and suggests a larger investigation instead.

Have I got it right ??

and some here think she is on firm ground with her charges......and deserves her day in court

Write to her on FB and tell her that....
Get your duff into court Miss..... pursue this.....

and please - report back

i think the Dominican Government, in conjunction with the hotel, should offer her the 200k, under the following condition...

she agrees to go on network tv, at prime time, and agrees to be grilled by one of the finest detectives in the business.

Hard to “figure something out” if evidence has been destroyed. I pray they don’t convict a patsy.

The damage to DR tourism is incalculable, at least for the near future. No wonder Danilo is involved.

Not angry, there would be no point. Not disappointed since this happens all the time. Not even surprised.

I'll stick with disgusted ;)

Still not a shred of corroborative evidence to substantiate her allegations. The DR is not some top secret society that only full blooded Dominicans can grasp. Any person who lives, works and has business contacts here can figure this out. A shake down in Philly is the same as a shake down in PuntaCana
