This is how neighborhoods are turned around. Through re-investment. There's nothing "ghetto" about that, just ask the folks who are getting rich re-investing in Harlem, NY and South East Washington, DC. What could possibly be wrong with financially investing into a community which you are already culturally and emotionally vested in?
This is exactly the kind of thinking that gets things done. How many people remember harlem when it was just a bunch of condemned, or burnt down buildings? With as much crime, and "ghetto-ness" as any campo or barrio in D.R. ?

Now rent is upwards of 2500/month for 1 bedrooms. there are starbucks, and chain stores all over the place. it can be done.

people act like DR is the only places with very poor, or dangerous areas. They exist everywhere in every major city in this world. All of those area's can be turned around.

The OP obviously cares about the "novia" so suggesting that he toss her and get a more financially suitable partner may just be the most soulless and hard hearted response offerred to date and by it's very nature it shouldn't merit consideration, expecially in light of the fact that she doesn't seem to have done anything in particular to violate his affection for her.
This is one of the reasons why some of these girls become the subject of the threads in the "Men from mars and women from venus " forum. Guys continuely do wrong by them, and then they decide to play the same game being played on them.

I would suggest that if the OP really cares for his "novia" that he should consider looking for a rental property for her in a better area and subsidizing the difference. It's aggravation insurance. If he cares enough about her to worry for her safety in the present living arrangement then this is the only sensible alternative. I just hope she proves worthy of his trust.

i thought about this. The difference would be probably about 1500-3000pesos/month. i havent offered it yet, we aren't at that stage of the relationship.

This is about 50 meters from parque mirador sur and ave anacaona.

I know where that neighborhood is. Just ask anyone who got robbed walking in parque mirador at night. Where do you think the tigres come from? yes, exactly 50 meters south of mirador sur.

December 15th ish, me and my lass with child were walking just along the road from where we lived. A couple of guys jumped off a moto, stuck a gun in my face and demanded everything we had, at first I refused, he turned the gun on my then 17 month old daughter. I gave him everything.
I let sleeping dogs lie, but in time this got to me and we decided to move pretty soon after, just before moving I have to go to the barrio on san juan and let it be known some crazy assed gringo was on the look out for them and was going to kill them. Obviously not the truth, but they didnt know that, the fact I gave a couple of big mouths a few hundred pesos to keep an eye out for them and report back to me once spotted was convincing enough. I have never been back, but I am pretty sure a gringo handing out a bit of cash to find these anchors will be enough to keep them on thier toes and uncomfortable for quite some time, I expect move as most of the time they are cowards.
You can not beat them, just do your best to make life as uncomfortable for them as they have for you. If you are not up to it, move or buy extra security, screw cameras, not in the capital, only one rule stands outside of the upper class society, and no reporting the the police is the stupidist idea I have heard in a long time, especially from people who have lived here for so long. Depending on your district you are more likely to make yourself a target by showing your volnerability.
In my experience anyway!!!

AZB, im just going to agree to disagree with you. I am not pretending to know everything, which is why i am asking on this type of public forum to see what the options are. The only option isnt to sit on your hands and do nothing. There are other options and possibilities. As with anything it takes time, and it the people to speak up.

I do not get it,. When gringos go shopping for a car, they want the best deal for the money, a car with reliable history, will not break down, not give trouble for many years of service and famous name brand. They do the same research when they buy a house. They are known to get the best deal for their money in everything they buy. Now it comes to finding a mate, they fail miserably. Seems like 95% are just going along or falling in love with the worst option they can find in DR. I see them going out or marrying/supporting women with children of other men, women who look like maids, women who are old and went down-hill years ago, even hookers. So what went wrong here? Ummm, I have a feeling, they settle for the first woman who agrees to go to bed with them. This is where the gringos become stupid.
Now here is what dominicans do:
I know a famous lawyer who looks and dresses up like james bond. He is rich and harward educated. He was married to a good woman but she was not up to his standards (meaning, she was old and may have become a bit bitter in life). She is also a professional who makes very good money. I knew her personally. I didn't know they had split up 3 yrs ago because I was called to know, he was coming over with his girlfriend. He is 47 - 48yrs old but still in great shape and handsome looking. When the door opens and he walks in with his girl, I was stunned. Wow, what a choice. The girl was perfect from head to her toe nails. Looked like a model who was on the magazine cover. The woman was elegant, about 27-30 yrs old but with a body of an athlete. She spoke elegantly and her english was perfect as well. She was tall and fit with beautiful straight hair all the way to her lower back.
Now the lawyer is rich but she didn't look like she was poor and desperate either. I am sure he takes a good care of her.
So the moral of the story is simple:
If you are going to support a woman financially then why not get the biggest bang for your dollar? Get an elegant model who will knock you off your feet every time you see her. I mean, if you are going to pay and worry about her expenses, then date a girl who is worth the trouble. But no, the gringos are still buying houses to women who are feeding 3 kids from 3 different men who have left them a long time ago. The women who are struggling in life and at best, could pass for a maid.
AZB

P.S. I am not talking about Op's girl, just gringos in general.

Yeah the moral of the story is simple all right. When you reach male menopause in your late 40's it's important to make enough money to ditch your old lady, the one who bore your children and kept you before you reached success, for a young, well educated and beautiful 20 something year old HO who will provide you with the perfect trophy wife and make mad, passionate love to the cabana boy and his cousin and maybe a couple of your golf buddies as soon as your old and stupid back is turned. Got it.

...and you think they invented that mindset in the Dominican republic? That guy is your example of success? He's my example of a Man who is desperately reaching for the manhood he'll never achieve as life slowly passes him by. His "friends" are laughing at him behind his back because he thinks she's his girl but it's just his turn. She's positioned herself for the BBD (Bigger, Better Deal). Some role model you picked.

"This ain't Kansas"??? There are more people in the NYC metropolitan area than in the whole f'ing Country of the Dominican Republic. You haven't seen the type or the level of crime that exists in the impoverished areas of that city. There are probably a half million people in NYC who exist completely off the grid. No job, no ID (not authentic, anyway), no bank account and no possible way to trace them. They live by doing crimes. Crimes against persons, crimes against property, whatever put the money in their hands. NYC is where Dominican Criminals get their post graduate educations in their specialties of endeavor so I'd like to know exactly how you can compare it to Kansas.

Typical american mindset. No wonder you guys never leave sosua.
The truth is, dominicans in all corners of this island laughing at you when they see you taking chopas for shopping in expensive places. women who belong in local colmados drinking beer from plastic cups while moving to the music of el ciego de nagua. Please.... get a clue for a change.
All I am saying is this: you want to pay for a woman, her home, her kids and support her family, then get a girl which will rock your boat until you flip over. Do not pay premium for a girl that dominicans can have for free. I think its better to show off a model-like girl who looks and acts premium than to show off a woman who looks like she works in a corner carwash.
By the way, the lawyer and his girl, do not fit your description of pople you are talking about. Its a whole different society game.

"Model-like"??? "Different society game" ???

Looks like you need the clue. People are the same everywhere.

$60 dollars / month deal or 600 dollars/month deal, the story is always the same. All guys have the same complaints and concerns. Always the poor woman who was abandoned by her man who bore kids with her. she always lives in a barrio which is dangerous. she is always broke, she is always a single mom, always in need for financial help, always a robbery victim, always the cell phone is stolen, always problems with rent, always problems with her ex, always mom need an operation blah blah. I am sick of hearing the same old story from guys, yet all guys think they have a different case. Their mate is different from the rest and she is a nice person who is just abused in her past....blah blah. Its the same old story for me. When will you guys look for the best in DR, just like you do when you go shopping for anything in usa?

off topic

I never asked for relationship advice once in this thread. i was asking for legal advice, and advice on what can be done when crimes are being committed.

i'm not sure why people went off on a tangent about hookers, johns, gringos, sosua, etc. None of that was mentioned in this thread. Crimes like getting robbed in public parks, home robberies, and police corruption happen everywhere it isnt specific to DR. I was merely asking if someone wants to take action against this what are their options, and how can they use the system which they pay for to find a solution.

I dont think everyone on this board should be considered a gringo until proven otherwise. i dont think everyone with a novia in DR found her in el flow in sosua, adultfriendfinder, or at carwash.

I do think the topic AZB is mentioning is worth discussing and interesting. What types of relationships "caregiver" type of guys jump into, with what type of women, how they go about it, etc. But for this thread i dont think the relationship speeches/debates are relevant.

..and what's your point? I have shared a whole lot more information regarding the logistics of travelling to places both inside and outside the Dominican Republic on "InSearchOf" than any other forum. I have no idea about that other site that you visit. Members there have helped with restaraunt, hotel, flight deals, current events and security updates, etc., etc. so you can quit hating on them. What did they ever do to you?

As the Don Quixote of social climbers you should realize that good character is just as likely to exist in poor people as it is in rich ones. You seem to indicate a belief that one's character can be determined through the use of a credit check and in my experience nothing could be farther from the truth. I think that a member here should be able to express a legitimate concern relating to a personal situation that is related to Dominican life without sycophants of the "Who's who" blasting their choices in life.

There are a bunch of regular people who live in different contries and some really, really like one another for whatever reasons. I consider the fact that one of those reasons isn't money, prestige (real or imagined) or anything other than the emotional connection between them.

The Acacias is a nice area. Sadly it's close to el Ocho y el Ocho y medio and too many tigueres live in "el semillero". Balaguer was going to bulldoze the whole thing and put an elevado their I think or something. But he poof and died so el semillero stands! My aunt lives in Acacias right by Cayetano Germosen. It's hardly a neighborhood where las sucias roam. If she get's a dog that barks and looks mean it could help, plus the camera idea is good. At least to put a face on the perp y caerle a golpe despues.

Thanks for the info. The neighborhood looks nice enough driving around. I will take a look at google maps. to makesure i know where the areas you mentioned above are to stay away.

the camera idea sounds like a better idea, after thinking about it. If they get the ladrones on camera you can give the policia, or military a propina to put a scare into them y algo mas. I'm sure someone can be found to help out in that type of business.

I had a novia, her sister was mugged (she got a smack, and got knocked out). Little did the mugger know that he was caught on camera, and the girl's godfather was a major in the army. Needless to say the girl got her purse back.

So far the suggestions i have found useful are

- contact the police, and pay them to start a legit investigation
- Get some kind of surveillance setup (camera). This could be used to aid the police or retaliation.
- contact local radio stations, and community groups if the authorities are not helpful
- move to a gated building w/a watch(y)man
- attack Bears.....
