New Years Eve Friday 31.12.04 @ 07.30am

Yesterday - A rather up and down day with overcast skies, some half decent sunny spells and a bit of wind. We also had the occassional showers but they were very localised. In the evening the winds and the rain showers increased, but again they were very local (eg. rain along the Cabarete to Sabaneta road at 5.45pm was in 4 different locations and there were dry areas in between). The wind picked up in the night and probably increased to 20 knots+ but I don't think that there was much rain?
This morning, dull and very overcast with rain clouds all over the area. The wind feels quite strong and is blowing from the NE making a walk on the beach a bit blustery. Winds of Cabarete web site gives speeds of 13+ knots but it certainly feels and looks more than that! One heroic soul out there windsurfing and having great fun.
Sea is rough with waves out on the reef over 2 metres - shore break is arond 1.8 to 2 metres in places.
Not looking good for a calm, warm or dry New Years Eve on the beach?

Saturday 01.01.05 @ 07.45am

New Years Eve and it rained in Cabarete - but did this dampen the spirits on the beach? NFW!!! The party went on, the fireworks were great and everybody enjoyed themselves.
During the night the wind continued to blow and we had a lot more rain.
This morning it's still blowing around 13 knots and it's dull and very overcast with the odd shower.
Not a nice day! Another day for a sweater I fear and an umbrella!
Sea is rough still and the waves are up.

Sunday 02.01.05 @ 08.00am

Yesterday stayed dull and overcast with short showers for most of the morning until about 2.00pm and then we had a little bit of sun. The evening produced some rain too!
This morning the early part of the day was quite nice and the sun did shine except for a very small shower on the beach around 09.00am.
Now it's 11.40am and we've just had rain in Pro Cab. Vey dull and overcast now.
Sea was more settled earlier today with little to no wind and a very small shore break.

Monday 03.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yesterday was very changeable! we had dull and overcast, localised rain showers, sun and a bit of wind.
This morning it was very dull and overcast and the wind was blowing quite well at 07.30am. There were dark rain clouds out to sea and some localised drizzly rain along the beach. I was a little cold too! Two huge rainbows over Kite Beach at 08.05am but then the sky darkened again. Currently it's a little better and the rain has stopped and the sun is trying to come up - but don't hold your breath as there is still a lot of dark cloud about! The wind suddenly stopped at 08.30am?
Sea was not rough early but there was a lot of wind chop. Shore break was varied and up to 1 metre along Bozo Beach.

Tuesday 04.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yesterday stayed dull and overcast with odd showers through the day - BUT ....we did have some sunny spells too. That was until late in the afternoon when it rained quite heavily! I had to drive to POP airport and it did not stop raining the whole way, quite heavy too. It also rained into the evening.
Seems like it rained on and off for most of the night as well - my pool is at least 2 inches higher than it was last night so we must have had some fair amount of rain?
Awoke this morning to thunder and lightning and constant rain - some heavy bouts but mostly prolonged drizzle. Needless to say, we did not wander the beach today as it's too dull, wet, dark and miserable, (and it's not often we miss our morning stroll)!
It's still raining now at 07.50am but the thunder has moved away a bit although it is still very dark and dismal!! Not a very nice day!!
La Rinconada reports that the sea is quite rough and that the shore break to the East of Cabarete is around 1 metre.
HAS IT STOPPED RAINING ALL DAY? NO NO AND MORE NO!!!

Are you near Bahia Principe-San Juan?

Does Cabarete share a weather system with the Bahia Principe-San Juan area? I know they had daily bus tours to Cabarete but don't know how far away you are from there. We're trying to figure out the best time of year to go back there (nothing but rain when we went in November) so I'm trying to get accurate reports from somebody who actually lives in the area.

The whole of the North Coast is currently suffering from too much rain!!! It is difficult to predict the weather in any of the areas as much of the normal rains are very localised. We've all had out of the ordinary lengthy spells of rain here since October 2004 - we should be having tropical rain at the moment with the winds kicking in as it is now high season, BUT ... this year no wind yet and the rain is almost non stop this week.
Sorry I can't be more precise.

Wednesday 05.01.05 @ 07.00am

Yesterday was a bitch of a day for rain - it did not stop!! We were 22 deg C in Cabarete and very wet right up until the late evening. I have no doubt that there will be severe flooding along the north coast?
The night was dry though except for a few spots of rain early this morning.
The beach was dry for my early morning walk but I still carried my trusty umbrella and whilst the sun did not rise clearly the sky was reasonable for a while. At the moment, 09.15am, the sky is once again overcast and it's raining AGAIN!!! The sun is trying so no doubt there are rainbows to the north over the sea at this momen?.
Shore break was not big today.

Thursday 06.01.05 @ 07.00am

Yesterday did brighten up a bit but there were still overcast moments. It degenerated during the evening and the rains came again in the night.
Awoke this morning to some scattered rain spots along the beach and the usual rain cloud winds but his soon cleared. The sun is trying to shine but there are still some dark clouds about and it could rain?
Sea state is reasonable with some surf out on the reef and a shore break of up to 1.2 metres along Bozo Beach.
We certainly could do with some nice sunny weather to help dry everything out!

Friday 07.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yesterday - Rain on and off throughout the day! Rain on and off into the evening! Rain on and off during the night, and the winds picked up!
This morning it was dark and dismal again and we had showers from dawn. A brisk and blustery beach walk but the rain did hold off. Winds are around 14 knots and there's some surf out on the reef. Shore break up to 1.2 metres along Bozo Beach and slightly less in the bay.
Still lots of grey and dark clouds about, especially to the East. A big cloud bank out to sea but at least the sun is trying to rise. (08.28am)

Saturday 08.01.05 @ 07.00am

Yesterday stayed windy and the kiters were out in force. Generally it was a mixture of cloudy and sunny spells for most of the day.
The night sky was clear and the winds continued to blow. A nice clear and very small crescent moon could be seen just before dawn, alongwith a few stars, but then the clouds rolled in!
Winds are around 15 knots so it was another bracing walk along the beach. We did have a few spots of rain at 08.00am but nothing serious. It's now overcast and could very well rain this morning.
High tide earlier so the shore break was pretty even with waves up to 1.2 metres - some surf out on the reef, no doubt this will improve as the winds pick up and with the low tide?

Sunday 09.01.05 @ 07.15am

Yesterday it did not rain and stayed dry all day with bright spells and overcast periods.
A very clear evening sky but it did rain at least twice in the night and the winds picked up again.
Overcast this morning early, a very small shower of rain at 07.50am and the winds are around 11 knots. A couple of surfing souls were out in the bay as there are a few good waves out on the reef. Shore break is less than 0.5 metres.
Wind still blowing at 09.50am, sky is clearing with some sun and some cloud.

Monday 10.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yesterday - stayed nice for most of the day with snny spells and overcast periods. there were 2 very short and very light showers in Pro Cab around midday/early afternoon but nothing to worry about.
It did rain quite heavily during the night!
Early morning clouds soon cleared except for the usual banks out to the North over the horizon and to the East over Sabaneta. Currently the sun is shining but there are still cloudy areas. No wind today!
Beach sand is very soft as the higher tides are again changing the beach profiles. Quite a bit of garbage being washed up with some larger tree debris to the East along Playa Rinconada.
Still a bit of surf out on the reef but little shore break in the bay. Some waves up to 1 metre along Bozo Beach.

Tuesday 11.01.05 @ 07.00am

What a nice surprise to get a full day of lovely sun yesterday!
It did rain a bit in the night though and it was very dull and overcast early this morning. Wnd was up a bit with one lonely kiteboarder out there at 07.30am but the wind has now stopped.
It's raining heavily now at 08.30!! Not nice!!
Sea state is low with very little shore break.

Wednesday 12.01.05 @ 07.25am

Yesterday - Variable periods of dull & overcast sky, some minor showers and some clear periods. Until the evening that is - It rained quite heavily once or twice around 9.00pm and then continued at times throughout the night.
This morning it rained again early but cleared enough for my early morning beach walk.
Plenty of dull dark clouds still around with little chance of it clearing at the moment, (08.30am).
Sea is not rough and the shore break is quite small.
What's hapening to the world's weather? Long drawn out rains here in the Caribbean, strange conditions in the USA, storms in Europe with lots of rain, snow on the mountains in Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE for the first time in 50 years and a 30 knot, 15 foot wave storm along the Dubai/Sharjah coast in the UAE yesterday!!

Thursday 13.01.05 @ 07.00am

It doesn't improve! Yesterday some clear spells but then it rained heavily in the early evening and then into the late evening and then through the night.
Woke this morning to more rain although it has stopped now and we had a dry beach walk.
Winds are between 5 & 10 knots, sea is not too bad with up to a metre shore break along Bozo Beach.
There are some clear patches in the sky but generally it's dull, cloudy and overcast.

Friday 14.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yeah, well ---- it rained again yesterday? Heavy in the evening too! Some rain and wind in the night.
This morning? Black, grey, dull and overcast with some very light showers on and off.
Sea relatively calm, winds offshore around 4 knots.
THIS WET STUFF IS NOW GETTING BORING!!!
IT'S RAINING AGAIN!!!!! 10.00AM.

Rain Data Facts for Cabarete

Just checked my records again for Pro Cab/Cabarete rainy days since the 1st October!! Scarey horrible stuff!
October - 31 days and it rained on 12 of them!
November - 30 days and it rained on 21 of them!
December - 31 days and it rained on 20 of them!
January 2005 - 14 days to date and it's rained on 11 of them!!!!

That's a total of 106 days out of which we have had rain on 64 days/nights, of varying intensity I agree, but......? That's 60% of the period when it's been wet!!

Saturday 15.01.05 @ 07.10am

Yesterday's weather did improve a bit and we actually got a few suns rays.
Awoke this morning to overcast skies witha few spots of rain around dawn but this seems to have cleared a bit now. The sun is trying hard to shine through now, 08.15am, but there are still clouds about.
Sea is fairly calm this morning.

Sunday 16.12.05 @ 07.45am

Yesterday morning it rained quite heavily but this managed to clear around midday and the sun actually came out. The afternoon was nice and reasonable and we had a dry evening and night.
This morning - very nice clear skies but there have been some passing cloud banks out to sea. But the sun is shining at the moment and it looks like it could turn out to be a nice day?
Sea is relatively calm with up to 0.5 metre shore break along Bozo Beach and some waves and surf out on the reef at the tide change.
Unfortunately the forecast for the next few days predicts another low pressure area with more bad weather!
