I created a CVS account online in order to buy some Acetominophen and Ibuprofen in case supplies here in Santo Trafficjam get depleted.

CVS confirmed the order by e-mail and then cancelled it five minutes later. They don't ship to freight forwarders because of experience with fraudulent purchases for resale.

The good news today is the German cable channel Deutsche Welle has a program called Die Hundefl?sterin (the Dog Whisperer [female]).

Her techniques are very similar to Cesar Millan's right down to the "Sssstt".

Hi all, without me going through all the pages for an answer, is this virus only transmitted via mosquitos or can it be transmitted person to person.

Many thanks

Hi all, without me going through all the pages for an answer, is this virus only transmitted via mosquitos or can it be transmitted person to person.

Many thanks

So far as we know the person to person transfer has only been recorded from blood transfustions and from mother to fetus.,

It is called an aborial virus meaning that its primary form of transmission is through arthropods.. creatures with exoskelens. in this case the Aedis Egypyti mosquito.

The virus was discovered in the 50s and there have been epidemic outbreaks in both Africa and Asia. In Indian, more than a million persons had it.

There is no record of it ever having been transferred sexually. There are rumours, evidently, but no records.

This is a day biting mosquito who likes to live indoors, particularly in closets and bathrooms.

Symptoms appear 3 to 8 days after being biten.

One man's story of Chikungunya:

Man survives chikungunya, says he "felt old"

Florida is number one in the country for confirmed "travel associated" cases of chikungunya.

Tampa, Florida -- Florida is number one in the country for confirmed "travel associated" cases of chikungunya with 66 cases reported so far.

One of those cases is a Manatee County man who caught it on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. Bill Hardy knew that the trip in early June would be a trip he'd never forget.

Florida is number one in the country for confirmed "travel associated" cases of chikungunya.

"What hurt? My knees mostly. I felt like I needed a walker," says Hardy.

But he never thought it would come with a great deal of pain.

Good tips:What makes me so tasty? 5 myths about mosquito bites

"We were told prior, chikungunya was down there and that there were cases of it," says Hardy.

Hardy says he used repellent and wore long-sleeve shirts.

"We thought we were ok," says Hardy.

But when he returned home he realized he brought back more than just his memories.

"After we got back from our trip on Monday, I started feeling old," says Hardy.

Hardy went to a doctor in Tampa where they confirmed the worst -- a confirmed case of chikungunya.

"I was a different case because I worked in Hillsborough County and lived in Manatee County so I also fell under the Manatee County jurisdiction," says Hardy.

Both areas then sprayed for mosquitoes and sent out pamphlets to alert neighbors. For three days, Hardy said he could hardly walk.

"It got worse and worse," says Hardy.

Hardy hopes if others may be experiencing the same symptoms, they get checked out so the health department can do their part in hopes to keep the mosquito borne illness from spreading. He also hopes that chikungunya doesn't prevent people from planned trips to the Caribbean and that people just plan on protecting themselves.

California and Tennessee have had 10 cases of chikungunya

Florida leads the way with 34.

It is now just on a month since I had my fever and I thought that I had recovered but for the past two days I have been total y exhausted after mild exercise and my knees well up easily. The stiff neck has improved but i know it will be 3 months at least before the virus has run its course . I ice my knees after exercise and take an anti inflamatory . I have no pa?n now in bed, only when walking. I think that I must agree that this virus will run its course no matter what you do or take and all you can do is reduce the pa?n and inflamation in the standard way

I was thinking last night about the other thread on making SD a tourist destination and watching the number of cases grow and realized that the US and Europe no longer have their little playground all nice and picture perfect get away all germ free and safe for thier winter vacations.

The CDC says now

ountries and territories in the Americas where chikungunya cases have been reported: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, French Guiana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Guyana, Haiti, Martinique, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Barthelemy, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Sint Maarten, Suriname, Turks and Caicos Islands, United States, US Virgin Islands, and Venezuela.

One hopes that soon they will also get a vaccine for DENGUE.. and MALARIA.. (I think this is about the only island with malaria outbreaks still ?) and Cholera...

That would be really great news for the developing world.

The good news is that outbreaks of this disease seem to run in 10 year cycles or so .. so it is not perhaps a forever thing.

Well I seem to making some progress against this fever. .. which is what it is.

My friend, who studied naturopathy, as I did as well.. (and lots of other kinds of medicine, having lived in Haiti and on a boat in Australia and other places where there ain't no doctors) came over with Echanacia. and Goldenseal tablets which is what we always used when we were the slighest bit sick in the mountains. The goldenseal we used to just break open the capsules and put on a wound.

I went back to other vitamins and supplements I take but really it was just the basic B multiples 100 mg and the Echinichea.. and I broke into a fever both yesterday and today.

Was feeling fine one minute. sitting in the casa de cambio. Then completely sweating soaked my hair completely and my face.

(no, not menopause. hysterectomy complete at 36 no hormones afterward)

3 minutes later completely gone

this morning I was fine. Took the meds. plus the ibuprophen

went back to bed because i could not sleep last night.

room starts swimming around. like i was drunk. (do not drink) Sweating again.. crawl to the corner where i had abadoned the bucket of water and mistolin the night before

(dog is upset with my illness and has been peeing in odd places.. like everywhere so I had to mop up)

grabbed bucket to have by bed in case of vomitting which I felt like

air conditioner on 18. sweat pouring off me.. i am soaked. sheets are soaked. breathing short and shallow.

now in natural medicine .. homeopathic medicine.. this is called a healing crisis.
just as a fever is a sign that your body is FIGHTING a battle.

so it is a good thing.

so I did some Reiki. and kept breathing through it.

And then brought the bucket up and inhaled the mistolin.. ok.. probably would have been better if it was bicks vapo rub or something but you make do.

came in and called maid and told her to take a cab from Villa Mella .. that I was sick.

By the time she got here, fever gone. Stomach still a little queasy but feeling much better.

So I will be taking ECAHNACHIA and GOLDENSEAL and VITAMIN B COMPLEX on a regular basis.

I am also going to take some BiCarbonate of Soda as my tum is still doing roller coasters.

I am drinking ginger ale. Coca Cola would also be good.

I had fruit juice and coffee and sponge cake this morning. Was really actually hungry this AM/

OK that is the update.

I think that the trick is to really start combining medical approaches here .. allopathic and naturaopathic and all types.

The mango tea will be great as well as soon as some one really posts the recipes// it is supposedly with nutmeg, allspice? cinnamon.. ???

but I can't even really peel a mango much less figure out how to make them into a tea.

When I lived in Grenada, we just got naked and ate them.

If you have a problem with "CVS", I never did, try Walmart.
I now get all my "OTC" meds from them, CHEAPER than CVS Too!
Their "Equate" brand is fine stuff!

Slept really well for about an hour and a half. No sweating, no nightmares. Woke up hungry.

Maid had cooked for me and Nephew who is here visiting (put him up in a hotel nearby so he can go out and about)

ATE pork and mashed potatos and broccoli.. really the first meat that I have eaten since this thing hit.. except for a few pieces of bacon.

Mostly I have eaten only eggs, or potatoes, or a chicken sandwich with mayo.

Yesterday I ate great gobs of guacamole (yes there definitely IS a song in that)

So my appetite, which I completely lost, is returning.

Gotta be a good sign. Now starting week 5, I think??\ I will have to check back in the thread.

REALLY hungry! now having toast and butter and incredible fig jam from France. And ANOTHER ginger ale.

My kidneys hurt. It may be just back pain but it is in that region.

(OK.. now this goes into the More than you need to know category) Never had diarhhea but have always been pooping more than I eat. A Good thing. My naturopath brought me as nasty looking charcoal colon cleanse which I will try once I can face it. Lots of the things that she brings are nasty.. and as soon as she says "this is soooo good for you, I know it is going to taste like horse puckies)

But something has broken through, I think, with the appetite return.

My neighbor said she was completely in bed for a week, could not do a thing. And she is up and about now. But she says taht it just comes back and back.

So, of course, this may have nothing to do with B Vitamins and Echinacia and Goldenseal I have evnough experience with all of them to know how powerful they are but lots of folks discount them. Don't waste your typeface on that subject with me. I have been using them for 40 years.

Does not seem to have really been progress. My hands hurt worse than ever. Wrists, fingers, thumbs. Went to put my hands on my hips and found that I could not. I looked all "bent up" wrist forward, shoulders forward, and still not reaching the hips.
