100% Agreed. After reading this statement I just laughed to myself
and didn't bother reading the rest of the article as one can only assume
the rest of it is BS as well.
What does it mean now that the DR politians are jumping into bed
with the Chinese? Get ready to start seeing massive land consessions,
more casinos, over development of shopping malls, hotels and new
construction in and around the barrios in the national district. Explotation
of what little natural resources this country has left to offer and a ton of bribes
paid to the crooks who are running this country. The Chinese will make
those Odebrecht bribes look like a drop in the bucket. Besides.. where in
the hell did yall think Danilo was going to get money to fund his next
presidential campaign now that most of the folks who helped finance his
last one are sitting in prison?
If China puts $30 Billion into Haiti, $31 Billion will go missing. Now back to the DR and it unique blend of fraud and business.
All of that your saying happened before the Chinese came in....same story but with different actors...lol
I don't want to take this thread too far off topic by providing multiple examples based
on what I have seen / experienced in other countries but I will say this... I don't think
this tiny little island nation is prepared for the Chinese way of doing things.
Only a fool would believe that the Chinese are 'just like everybody else'.
The anti-American crowd will beg America for help soon enough. They might not even get a response the way things are going.
Note to the America haters: if America falters in any way, you will be on your own and at the mercy of stronger far less benevolent countries who don't even own a pair of gloves they can take off. They will come at you bare fisted from the get go. An American power vacuum will mean war everywhere, and I mean everywhere. Be careful what you wish for.
you are 100 % correct....the only reason other major powers don't mess with Dr is because it's backed by the usa those are the facts jack. like it or not....
what do you imply when you say ''mess with''? in respect to what? politically? economically? socially? militarily?
what?
G, there is nothing to mess with in my opinion. Why call yourself a free and independent nation if you can't stand on your own? The Chinese will consume all the natural resources they can get and sell you all the junk they can. Then they leave you like jilted bride who then has to pay her rich husband alimony.
The way I see it is two tricksters trying to trick each other. But no worries, the World Bank or IMF will bail out the DR, for a piece of the action.
I said it before, the biggest advantages for DR to focus on China as an increasingly global power is that they don’t meddle in a country’s internal affairs.

I think much of the ‘Chinese scaring’ is probably created in the USA as a defense mechanism. China is moving into the USA’s backyard and its obvious the US doesn’t like it.
I said it before, the biggest advantages for DR to focus on China as an increasingly global power is that they don’t meddle in a country’s internal affairs. The US (and to a lesser extent the Euro Union) often has strings attached to their ‘help,’ and with the DR those strings often means the DR gov turning a blind eye to the Haitian migration problem and the problem of Haiti itself. That’s the main reason the DR gov isn’t complying with what the average Dominican wants to be done with the issue. That’s also one of the main reasons for Dominican pessimism regarding the future of the DR. What type of future awaits when the country’s population is being supplanted by another one? Is that the DR most Dominicans want their kids to live in? Along with other issues, that one is paramount because it affects the core of Dominican existance as a nation.
This weekend some delegation of senators from NY are visiting the DR to ‘update themselves’ on the Haitian issue. When was the last time the politicians of any country made special visits to the US to monitor the treatment of illegals? Exactly, that’s a foreign intromission the US wouldn’t tolerate.
In any case, I think an increase of Chinese power in the Caribbean can be a good thing. It could help keep the US influence in check.
When the US was a rising power, Britain had an attitude with it too. The main idea in London was that that the US couldn’t survive. Look how things actually turn out, despite the initial jealousy emitting from London.
isn't that what everyone does? i am aware the the Chinese are not some special, benevolent people, who have an altruistic view of international relations. however, which major power has done right by lesser countries?
A revolt which would be easily tamed by providing a gallon of gas to Motoconchos, a box with 5 pounds of rice, beans and sardines to the maids, and a week free ride tickets in the teleferico and metro to the Tigres.
On August, Danilo is back on the seat.

G, you are correct. But in the long run, it's the evryday folks who end up paying for their government's folly. The big wigs always have an escape clause when it comes time for them to be upbraided. The common folk have no escape clause. The Chinese are in no way a benevolent savior to anyone.
Gorgon, in what condition would have been Curacao, Aruba and our beloved Jamaica without ....
i am not going to argue this with you. i really am not in a mood to hear that the descendants of slaves should be happy for slavery, because some are now playing ball and driving a Benz.
