"When you show you know how big a 720p TV show is, I'll answer your question."

You don't have to answer anything if you you choose not to.

However, this isn't a contest to see who has the most information, so they can be crowned 'king of the data pile' for a day, and then prance around one-uping everyone else.

This is a discussion forum, where people supposedly share the information they have.

In order to download a 43 minute 720p Divx file, you would need a connection speed of approximately 300Mb/s.

I think with codetel that is the "plan avanzado super especial" it costs 37 truckloads of pesos per month, plus tax.

Now Mr. Mike, we should help out the ones that know less about the subject.

A 720p movie, Wikipedia:
720p is the shorthand name for a category of HDTV video modes. The number 720 stands for the 720 vertical scan lines of display resolution.
720p has a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9, a vertical resolution of 720 pixels and a horizontal resolution of 1280 pixels for a total of 921,600 pixels.

Now, 921,600 in 8 bit colors = 921,000 Bytes per frame of uncompressed data, 43 Minutes x 921KB x 24 Frames per Second= 38,018,880 Kilo Bytes.
Now, MrMike, Said DIVx, (I will not discuss the that they are 2 noticeable different video quality here ), but I will assume that's a 700 Mega Bytes File.

Then 700M Bytes in 30 seconds it's 23.33 MB Per Second ( With Out TCP/IP Data ).

I would like to know who has a single 195Mb/s connection or higher ( Besides Tricom or Codetel ) in the DR?

Anyways, back to the topic of the thread before we got sidetracked.

I've got Tricom being installed this week, so I will be testing it head to head with Codetel and reporting the results back shortly. In addition, HillBilly is going to help me push internally within Codetel to see if we can get the disconnect and throttling problems resolved that way. One way or another hopefully this will be sorted out soon.

We are still going good here at DR1 after 1 week. No throttling and all sites seem to be pulling up just fine.

Robert, thats amazing.

I was thinking about how this throttling works - I think they are likely throttling by format, eg flash video format, rather than by site - I've seen a lot of video sites are extremely slow.

Can you tell us more about how you managed to get this fixed within codetel?

I have 1mbs d/l speed from Codetel and I have no trouble viewing SD flash video from the popular video sites. I have not noticed any form of bandwidth restriction.

We hassled them on the phone until they sent an engineer and fixed the problem. Sorry, I don't have any magic tricks, it was as simple as that.

TO ALL,

Please do a trace route to yahoo.com. This is done via the command prompt in windows or the terminal in MAC, linux guys know.

In windows:
C:\tracert yahoo.com

In Mac
traceroute yahoo.com

I would like to compare the results, something tells me that some groups are not going out the same route.

You will see hops or number, I just need the first 10.

Yes, you all can do it using Tricom, OneMax, Win Telecom, Orange, etc.
I know some of them are doing VPN to New York!

For security reason, please delete the first 1 or 2 hops! ( It's your public IP.)
