Alida reminded me of the nasty flu I had in December that wiped out me attending Christmas Eve dinner with the family.

Worst I had in several years. More fever than the usual flu and a bad cought, some headache, but not a lot of head congestion. I was afraid it was going to affect an early January tour.

I recovered, but the cough hung around for a week. I was noticibly sick from around Dec. 21 through January 5.

Alida had it a week or so before me.

We had recently traveled to Santo Domingo and Santiago.

I am now wondering if this was COVID-19, and if it's been floating around the DR for longer than we think...but without the public focus and hysteria.

The idea behind the lock downs is to control the numbers of sick that flood the hospitals. Once the first wave is over and the number of patients currently in treatment stabilizes, then we can begin to gradually release parts of the population from lock down and begin to build up some general immunity.

This means that everyone you release who hasn't yet been sick and recovered will likely get sick. You can't release everyone at the same time or you end up right back where you started. First are those who have been shown to have recovered then some more and some more after that. It's going to take awhile especially here where healthcare resources are constrained.

If everyone gets sick on cue and recovers on cue, then you might be able to release some more people every month based on the number of hospital beds that are available.

Extensive testing and contact tracing is going to be important to keep the rate of new infections in check. If the govt can't pull that off, then I see the infection going exponential again.
That is certainly quite a change from "we're all going to die and there is nothing we can do about it."

I had that --- 2 weeks + of it -- in early February

Fever, chest issues - nothing above my chin

Fatigue, wheezy breathing - tough to sleep
many friends say I had it.....

Another member here had the same.

Mom CB had tightness of the chest, trouble breathing and some fever. No cough. She supposedly had pneumonia, and it eventually took her after 11 days in ICU. We wonder if she got something from us.

Of course she was 92 and had numerous chronic conditions.

I was ill on the day of the superbowl start february but no cough. Feverish, headache and some fatigue. Just two days. Then again about two weeks after. Very unusual for me but now nauseas, feverish and fatigue and had to throw up. Again two days. Probably stomach flu. No cough at all. Don’t think it had anything to do with Covid 19 but who knows. It also affects people different ways. There has been several articles suggesting it has been around longer.

Me too I was wondering the same thing.. I ended up in intensive care for 12 days in early Dec.

Not in intensice care but we all (me, wife, nannie, 10 y/o, 2 y/o) had cold / flu symptoms for more than a month in January / February.

The most recent my pregnant wife. Dry cough, headaches, fever. All recovered and I am wondering since then what it really was...

It is definitely longer around than we think.

I have several friends and extended family members diagnosed with Covid 19 (USA, France) - some still sick, some recovered fully. In every single case they reported loss of smell and taste as one of the first symptoms. So if you didn't have that, it was most likely a different type of flu.

Herd immunity is the ONLY viable answer.

Keep the sick and those most likely to suffer the most away from everyone else, period, full stop: the elderly with any possible co-morbidity.

Let everyone else assume regular life.

The UK went with the "herd immunity" approach early on. They used a very light touch with restrictions, keeping schools etc open. Later, they changed their direction and closed everything, as their first method was not working. Now, although they had more time to prepare then other European countries where the first cases were reported, the UK is reportedly on course have the worst outbreak in Europe.

The experts say it's not possible to separete the elderly on the long run. And also the young ones can get it severe, without pre health problems.

What "experts" and why?

So far the "experts" have been less than close to accurate.

What is "severe?" Not death, because there is little evidence it kills the young.

Perhaps I was being facetious, about lockdowns forever. Perhaps not.

I completely agree that economics is going to be the main deciding factor in the near future. That is where the balance will overwhelmingly shift.

...Just what I said when this virus started..It will be a economic black hole....

That is certainly quite a change from "we're all going to die and there is nothing we can do about it."

I never said that. I did say that millions and millions of people would become infected and lots of people will die. Which has happened and we are not even halfway through the first wave yet.

I may have even publicly surmised that if I got sick I could easily be one of the fatalities. "We're all gong to die" might be your skewed perception of what I was saying if that is in fact what you believe I actually wrote. I don't think it is.

Just another opportunity to belittle, berate and provoke others is more like it.
