You can get Miami area or New York for 2-300 dollars return. Transatlantic flights from 500 dollars.
Bid for your own flight Priceline.com | Best deal on Hotels, Flights, Cars, Vacations & more!
My friends paid $300 dollars single to Europe from DR.
Plenty of European packages hotel/air/car from 1000 dollars inclusive ex. USA.
Plenty of flights to europe with Cheap tickets :: Jetairfly.com : Home from DR 700 - 800 dollars return. 1500 dollars is rubbish!
Other airlines likewise.
Other nearer destinations can be much cheaper - Cuba, Columbia etc.

Why do you post such BS? Do you realize how ridiculous it's making you look?

Find me a return ticket from the DR to New York for US$2-300.

Find me a return ticket under US$700 from the DR to Colombia.

listen, dude. i live here 5 years and i know what is the cheapest price around. to fly to poland it is 1500 dollars and 30 hours one way. i do not have american visa so i cannot travel via USA and even if i could i would not because TSA would confiscate all my luggage filled with goodies.
i cannot travel with charter flights because they can only offer last minute deals and i want to go home on a set date (christmas, for instance).
i cannot travel with any cheap and cheerful airline as they only offer 15 to 20 kg of luggage and i have about 50 (i do not travel often so i take advantage of any trips).
i have motion sickness so 30 hours travel is already killing me. and this is optimum time: car from POP to SD, flight to paris/madrid, change, flight to berlin, car home. travelling via USA would add so much more time to my already stretched vacation i would step inside my parents crib, give them a hug and come back.
you have NO IDEA what you are talking about. in 5 years i did not find anything that would offer shorter trip, better price or more luggage than darn airfrance. and their price is 1500 dollars. well, 1452, last time.

and last time i tell you. my family lives in poland. why the f**k would i want to go to cuba?

Do you think he finally understood ?????????? I dont think so because:

And he conveniently ignores posters who do economise but still maintain that costs are much higher than his lala land budget.

rubio - Say we flew to Brussels or Amsterdam, what is the fare likely to be in mid June, returning early August?

Plus, I don't think those informations are helpfull for the people who want to move to the D.R. or spend a few months each year.
I've been there done that. I would not have lived with less comfort in the D.R. than I live here in Canada. It was much more expensive for us in the D.R.. Why would I drink a 5$ bottle wine in the D.R. when I drink 25$ to 30$ bottle here. Why should I stop using Hellmans mayonaise when it's the one I prefer, Kraft peanut butter. No, the victorina Ketchup is not ketchup (if it's not heinz it's not ketchup).

I have stopped reading this thread.
The bottom line is this:
I will be in atlanta by the end of next week. This is where I can play the big "don" in my family. Even though I make money in pesos (in a 3rd world country) I will feel relatively richer in atlanta than in santo domngo. I will eat in comparable restaurants in atlanta which will cost me cheaper then I would be eating in comparable places in santo domingo. The clothes, shoes and all the electronic items will be a lot cheaper too. So i will do shopping, buy things to my nieces and nephews. If fact atlanta feels so much more cheaper than santo domingo that I insist upon paying the bill in many places.
So watch out, DON AZB is about to hit atlanta streets. Too bad, the same Don AZB is santo domingo is just another struggling expat whio counts his pesos before he pays for anything.

I was thinking about doing a SDQ trip this weekend. I looked up the tickets. Nothing less than $600.00.

I guess I wont be going. : (

I get 299 euros going 15 June.
449 euros return 5 th. aug.
Punta Cana - Brussels including taxes.
It's a scheduled service bookable without hotel etc.
1,000 dollar approx. The return fare is higher its peak.

It's up to your but the foods you quote are most likely full of preservatives, colorants, stabilizers, corn syrup etc. etc. and not so good.
Why not make some tomato relish with fresh tomatoes and peppers?
Red Tomato Relish Recipe | Group Recipes
Or some classic french salad dressing - much better than mayonaise. Peanuts are cheap in the DR. Excellent ground with olive oil and a little spice. What no preservatives? No hydrogenated rapeseed oil? What a shame?
All those executives at Heinz will be disappointed.
Come to think of it US does not give very good life expectancy!

To,"LISAGAUSS",Your Numbers Look Good To Me!

For a family of three.
I have a "FAMILY" of nine,so my numbers are higher than yours. You numbers reflect the REALITY of living in the DR.If people who want to move here use your numbers, they will NOT be in for a bad surprise after they arrive. If they go by "The Monks" numbers,I hope they have a return trip ticket! They will at least be able to get out when their money is gone!
Today is TUESDAY! "Yea!" Two For One at "Pizza Hut" today, and Tuesdays also. You get 2 large pepperoni Pizza for 660 pesos, plus a 40 peso "TIP",(For all Canadians,a "TIP" is some money you give someone for "Service"! ;))That is 700 pesos.
I buy a 2 liter KR Kola "Rasberry" bottle at the market,at only 46 pesos. It really IS cheaper here!;) :cheeky: :ermm:
Then we all go use our computers,4 laptops, and a PC. Glad I bought those "On Line" in the USA,cost double what I payed in the USA here.By the by,USA mayonaise is cheaper to buy here than dominican mayo! I can buy US pork cheaper too!
Now I think I will go take a "Siesta" in my "Freezing Cold",bedroom,in my KING Size bed. Then get up for the Pizza. We always ask my 2 daughter's private Tutor, who comes Mon. too Thursday,to join us. Even though they go to a really good private Catholic school in Arroyo Hondo, you can't spend too much to ensure a bright future for your children!
In the DR,your kids get the education you pay for.The more money, the better the education!

First, I did not say I was eating 1 pound jar of ketchup or mayonnaise or whatsoever weakly.

Second, don't worry for my health every thing is pretty fine and at my age.... not that much years in front of me lots behind though.

Thirth, I prefer to spend the day golfing or at the beach et having lunch there enjoying a g$$d bottle of wine (love it at the Punta Cana resort golf section) rather than making tomato relish (According to my friiends, I'm a very good cook though)

Fourth, just look in my fridge and my heinz ketchup and hellmans mayonnaise are made in Canada. Wonder if it gives me more life expectancy than in the U.S. ??? We owe a property in Florida, should I bring my canadian ketchup, mayonnaise when we go down there ??

Finally, the life expectancy in U.S. and Canada is muchhhhhhhhhhh more higher than in the D.R.

Is Ecuador cheaper than the DR?

BTW, I agree with YANANDU's posts.

Yes it is !

Here's my figures.

360 a month - rent a 2 br apart (middle class neighborhood)
70 a week on average for food/cleaning products/personal hygiene - 280 to feed 2 adults and 2 yr old / I spend about 20/30 a week at the mercado where I can fill a shopping cart with vegetables, grains and fruits. Btw, 280 includes the cooking gas last about a month and half, and about 12 dollars a month for large bottles of water (2 a week at 1.50 each delivered to home)
50 month - diapers and other baby stuff
80 a month - 2 MB internet, tv cable and about 100 minutes for landline
.25 cents x 2 a day transportation = .50 x5 (days)=2.50 a week / 10 a month and taxis about 30 dollars = 40 transportation
entertainment = 150 a month - includes going out to have beer and wings, drinking at home ( for about 1 dollar a get a grande), arcades, ice cream, eating out on sundays ( normally spend about 8.50 to have a chaulafan and tallarin brought to us)
school maternal for my 2 yr old = 80 +15 (occasional snack on the way) = 95
credit cards = 100 a month (covers buying clothing, some other purchases usually from the US and brought to us by relatives)
medical consultas and occasional medicine = 30 a month
electricity - 40 a month
water - it's included in the rent
watchiman - 15 a month
life insurance - 30 a month

That's 1270 for the main expenses for a family of 3. I would say about 1370 to include any additional costs that might appear and there's the trips we do outside of Guayaquil - we spend less than 100 dollars occasionally. Transport is about 12.50 for 3 r/t. We go to my wife's family but contribute to food and other stuff.

The figures would be really lower if I didn't have a wife and 2 yr old, and I didn't have to rent.
