I think the rates change. I took a taxis last week from the POP airport to Sosua and it was $25 dollars not $20.
Alamo currently is $22 per DAY including all taxes. Others - $23-$27. Why to hire a taxi for $25 for 15 minutes ride at all I wonder?
This thread appears to be about taxi rates. For people requiring transportation beyond their destination, perhaps you could start a thread about "Current car rental rates".

Because I own a vehicle an don?t like to let some else drive it. I rather spend $25 on a taxi than have someone pick me up and get into an accident and end up spending more. Just being cautious you have to in DR.

Probably you are right copain. For a first timer taxi may be good.
It is just my childhood spent in poverty without beautiful American unlimited luxury and glamorous overspending that makes me deep in my mind again and again try to help people to save wherever it is possible to save. To stretch their hard earned dollar. Too late to change.
And in all honesty - overcharging those unaware tourists $25 for a 10 minute ride ( 2.5 miles, $10 per mile)) - is a shameless rip-off in my understanding. For many people this taxi experience is their first ever experience of this beautiful country. And it is rip-off. $300 RD will be a very correct price.
Sorry for being in minority fias!
My two shekels.
I too come from a poor family. I stated the reason why I take a taxi rather then renting a car. I never said that the fare was reasonable. I know that the $25 for a 10 minutes right is too high, but in my situation is worth it. In my family we had about 6 vehicles total by reckless drivers. And to top off the medical expenses for the parties involved.
If you know your way around you will find someone who charges the $300 pesos....I had in the past. Yes it is unfortunate for the first time tourists that don?t know any better.
I don't know why there is always the assumption that one is rich.
If I was I would not be taking the taxi instead I would have a personal driver or a limousine pick me up.
And for the record I love taking the public transportation from Sosua to Puerto Plata, which you should know is very uncomfortable...but very interesting.
Or Maybe I should take the walk is only 2.5 miles.
My two cents

STI to Sosua, last I heard was 80 bucks, but we have some taxi friends, by way of Hillbilly, who do it for $70.
Just contact me or Hillbilly to make the arrangements.
Hi Rocky... does hillbilly pick up at POp Airport as well? If so we will need a lift to The Palms Dec. 4...our flight lands at 4:18 from Toronto it is flight 782. Or would it be better to just get a taxi that is there? Am looking forward to meeting some of these lovely folks on here. Hubby and I will be there for 5 months.
The current rate is now closer to $100US or even a little more. Gregg
Hillbilly doesn't do this and his friends have moved to the USA (Hi Bachata). The current rate is now closer to $100US or even a little more. Contact Martin Espinal espinal30@msn.com of Isaira Tours for a current price.
