You'd be lucky to get to Rio San Juan for $45 its $80 or more
Les,
Your post is not clear to anyone, unless you quote the post you are addressing.
Rather than hit "post reply", you click on the "quote" icon below the post that you are replying to.
PS: I agree that a taxi from POP airport to RSJ (assuming that is what we are talking about) would cost more like $80 US, than $45.

I very seldom rent anymore and put my money towards food or lodging. Taxi to Sosua to where I'm staying $15 us or so and then moto concho, moto concho, moto concho, yelling softly in his ear, sueve - tranquello to make them slow down.....................

Dangerous and stupid looking, but when in Rome, hey. So 20-40 pesos, a little under or over a dollar. If going out of town, no luggage, main road, public transportation, 30-60 pesos, Sosua to Caberette or POP, a little more. And you can always rent a car for a day in town, just make sure you are covered fully, wild wild drivers and animals. Do not rent a motor bike unless you're more adventurist than me, So stick to the private or public taxi and save money and maybe your life.

Les, tranquello. What costs $80 (US$ o RD $)? Are you talking about from the airport POP or from some other location? Are you talking about a bus or a taxi? Which kind of taxi, public o private? Of course people read your post. The question is, did you read the one after yours? You'd be much more effective if you were less snippy and more specific.

Are the fares still the same as post 1?

The price of fuel has gone up *slightly* since 2006, so most of these fares are higher. Perhaps Ken can repost the fares when he comes out of hibernation.

Mishugana, where are you looking to travel from/to?

If I recall, the posted rate is now $30, but can be done for $25 with a little negotiation!

I think it was said before but, to recall, a suggestion...

If you do not travel too heavy and your maletas have wheels, walk down to carretera (about 300 meters I guess) and many cars will happily bring you to Sosua for $300 RD.

Same thing should be done in Punta Cana.

It is very pity that public transportation is banned from entering airport facilities in this country!

Two weeks ago when I arrived at POP the posted rate for Sosua was changed to $25, when I questioned the taxi driver he agreed to $20. In the past when it was $20 they would usually agree to 500 pesos ($15). At least one other destination was changed but did not pay attention.

I use a local taxi. William Guzman with Atlantic Taxi. His mobile number is 809-429-2110. His rates are reasonable.

His name is actually Wilson Guzman. He speaks good English and is a very personable person. His rates are always reasonable and it will depend on where he is taking you. My wife and I have used him exclusively for the last 3years to travel around and he always picks us up and delivers us to the airport.

Today he took my wife to the airport from Cabarete, $35.00, he carried her bags and made sure she got through the check in without any problems. We booked him ahead of time and he was there early.

He has also acted as a very good interpreter for us and has been very helpful when these "Gringos" go shopping.

And FYI, he wants to be a lawyer and so he is also a student in law school and his grades are excellent but he needs lots of taxi rides to help pay for his classes and books, so I highly recommend him to anyone and he deserves all the tips he gets.

If you call him, tell him Andres and Patricia recommended him.
