Chivo

That's something that i will never eat.

I second that!! I was born and raised in DR, and had chivo as a kid. Never will I eat chivo, again!!!

Maybe is because I associate it with being smacked at the lunch table (by my very Dominican mom) for not eating it whenever she made it!!

Like i said in a previous post, not everybody knows how to cook Goats (Chivos), if the Goat is not well cook with all the ingredient necessary it'll taste awful, all goats are good with a little "hot chiles" too.

I love the goats my mother cooks, she usually only cook it for Christmas or when we have a party in the house, and it tastes like heaven :bunny:

I like yucca, but can't get my husband to eat it. Also, I can't even get him to try habichuelas con dulce...he refuses to even taste them.

You don't know what you are missing. I love a nice thick steak cooked medium rare.

A lot of Dominicans can't cook beef. It's always like a piece of leather!

No Dominican in their right mind will eat thick steak cooked medium rare.

The way Dominican prepare steaks, it's the best way to cook it, well, well done. I guess those Dominican that you know that cooked the steak like a piece of leather buy the cheapest old steak they can fine, i won't eat something that feel like leather in my mouth.

Back to Dominican recipes, my husband is always asking me why I don't cook Dominican food and I just never know what to cook. Do you guys eat primarily Dominican food?

I am Puerto Rican. Many of the Dominican dishes I have eaten have the same flavor as Puerto Rican.

Ex. Your basic rice, beans, stewed chicken, and totones or maduros.

Very true.

That is why I only order seafood in restaurants.

No blood for me.

No blood for me either, last time i check we're not vampires.

One thing i admired about my Dominican culture is that we eat our food well done, well cooked. We're human, only animals eat raw food or medium done food.

I don't know if it's the quality of the Steak or the fact that they overcook it that makes it tough.

Yeah, same with Cuban food. They all taste very similar. I'm just not one to eat rice all the time. Maybe once a week if that.

That's rare, your mother or aunts didn't teach you how to cook? My little sister is just 14yr and she cooks since she is 12yr.

I never learned how to cook because boys were not allow in the kitchen :paranoid: when i was growing up, now that i'm by myself i have to buy my
food :bored: so i eat a lot of Mexican, Chinese and American food :tired:.

We have Dominican Restaurant here in Atlanta but it's to faraway from where i live (45 minutes) lazy driver here.

You admire someone for eating their meats well done? ok

well para el gusto se hicieron los colores. THere is nothing wrong with a nice medium rare bobby vans steak with some steak asparagus!! TO DIE FOR, delicious meat thats tender and moist and just tasty.

YET, i LOVE me some pepper steak well cooked how i learned to make it from my dominican mother. DOminican (hispanics in general), can sometimes over cook food. I remember growing up thinking "damn it takes mami long to cook".... yet now, its like I cook in 30minutes, and i mean a full course, rice, beans (not from the can either), bistek encebollado, tostones. Same things mom used to cook, why? Cos old school DR think that the longer something cooks the better....
THAT ONLY applies to things like sancocho, any stews really and food that NEEDS simmering for flavor purposes.
But what the hell is the point of cooking a piece of steak for like 30minutes????
