San Cristobal. – Dr. Cruz Jiminian arrived at ground zero of the disaster in San Cristóbal and informed that he will exempt the payment to people who arrive from that province with situations at the health center.

"There precisely two patients who arrived yesterday, who were precisely left admitted and were not charged because we made a notice that anyone who arrives from San Cristóbal is totally exempt from payment while this situation exists. " Said the renowned doctor Cruz Jiminian.

The doctor also warned about the physical and mental health risks that San Cristobalans run due to the aftermath of the explosion that occurred last Monday afternoon.

" There are many factors, first, those who died immediately burnt to death, it is not known how many there are, second, those who are left with permanent injuries, third, those who can be cured with injuries that are already manageable, and fourth, emotional disorders," Jiminián explained.

He also said that respiratory diseases will worsen because just a few blocks from where the explosion occurred, the smell of smoke and the sensation was very strong. He added that there will be pulmonary outbreaks immediately, something that will be inevitable in the area.

"I say outbreak because it will not be at the national level or even in all of San Cristóbal, but in this environment, smoke does a lot of damage, it causes irritation in the lungs that can even bring lifelong consequences to some patients who are already affected," he said. the doctor _

He indicated that the area will be a source of contamination and that it is still unknown when the fire will cease.

During the visit, doctors representing the medical center implemented medical assistance work and brought supplies to the place such as masks, eye drops, and oxygen to help those affected in the areas near the explosion.

Reuters news wire has reported 25 deaths as well. I'm not sure if they have actual reporters in the area or are just passing news.
Either way its a horrible tragedy.

The explosion made the Global national news in Canada tonight. They did not give a cause but confirmed at least 10 dead, several injured and some still missing. I will repost if they ever give a confirmed cause.
The Toronto Star reported today that the explosion occurred in a bakery and then spread to other shops. Makes no sense after reading the other posts here. I would post a link but I'm on my tablet....

IMO that's the problem with today's news. All of media is so hell bent on getting stories out quickly that they don't have time to vet them. That's why we get so much garbage instead of actual news.
They are relying on unestablished rookie reporters rather than paying for actual reporters and the stories get so twisted that they become unbelievable and fake news.

What I find surprising is the lack of reporting on what it was that actually exploded. I don't think they know yet.

I think that today they will finally be able to get inside the buildings and start looking for causes. Last pic I saw there was still a little smoke coming from the textile building.
The Ferreteria is giving them problems. As of yesterday, they thought they had it extinguished not once, but three times. It keeps reigniting.

Most probably it is known what type of combustible fueled the explosion. However, the dilemma to solve the puzzle is what actions and conditions crossed to create the spark of tragedy. The concern is human and physical evidence was destroyed. We all can reasonably guess what happened but that is no consolation to those who died, those who were injured, lives upended, and destruction of property.

This is the confirmed version, among engineers and professionals. A personal source told me that the explosion was ignited from the bakery (there was heavy gas truck supplying the gas at the moment) and exploted generating a ripple effect around all the perimeter and businesses.

BBC referred to it as a "small town".

A lightbulb went off in my head today. I’d read several times about a textile store burning. It has to be Casa Toledo, that’s where we go to buy upholstery fabric, foam and notions, they have two locations that I’m aware of, on the same street, about a block apart. Now I’m reading the owner of Casa Toledo lost his wife, daughter and father-in-law….. but the news said it was a Ferreteria so I’m confused.
