A lightbulb went off in my head today. I’d read several times about a textile store burning. It has to be Casa Toledo, that’s where we go to buy upholstery fabric, foam and notions, they have two locations that I’m aware of, on the same street, about a block apart. Now I’m reading the owner of Casa Toledo lost his wife, daughter and father-in-law….. but the news said it was a Ferreteria so I’m confused.
That may be coming from me. At the start of this, somebody said it was a ferreteria, but the only one using that description now is me. I asked my neighbor and she said Casa Toledo too.
A lot of people were in that building when the explosion hit.

I believe it, every time we’ve gone it was crowded. Fabulous selections, they have a Facebook page I follow.

Death toll is up to 28:

Santo Domingo, DR. – The number of fatalities from the explosion registered in San Cristóbal on Monday afternoon rose to 28.
The latest victim is a patient who was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Juan Pablo Pina Regional Teaching Hospital. He passed away this Thursday night.

Earlier, relatives of the people who remain missing asked the health authorities to send enough medical personnel to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences ( INACIF ). This is so that the corpses can be identified and delivered, and thus be able to bury them.
Likewise, the mayor's office of San Cristóbal dedicated three days of mourning in memory of the deceased people and declared the place of the explosion a disaster area.
In a preliminary report, it was reported that more than two dozen rescue units had come to the town of San Cristóbal, in the south of the Dominican Republic. There, last Monday, right on Padre Ayala Street, there was an explosion.
The Juan Pablo Pina hospital was saturated by the largest number of victims. 26 patients were cared for in that center.
In that hospital, for the moment, four people have died. A four-month-old baby, due to severe head trauma, and three adults, including the most recent. They had burns on 90% of their bodies, reported the National Health Service (SNS).

This is the confirmed version, among engineers and professionals. A personal source told me that the explosion was ignited from the bakery (there was heavy gas truck supplying the gas at the moment) and exploted generating a ripple effect around all the perimeter and businesses.
Propane gas or gasoline?

Propane gas or gasoline?
IF it was fueling the Bakery, as rumored , it was Propane ...
It also the most likely scenario.. ( imo)
Propane has tremendous stored Energy .
No reason for a gasoline truck to be there and catch fire .and then explode .

Its amazing that no one can 100% confirm if a Propane truck was in that Immediate Area... would the Company not have a delivery scheduled ?
and the truck is now missing .

The public prosecutor apparently suspects the Vidal Plast company as being responsible.

The owner of the plastic plant is saying he removed the tank and the generator back in March after the last incident.

Initial Fire, or initial Blast may be a completely different Source .. The blast could have easily set off a Chain reaction, and anything that Burns or explodes after that does not mean it was the initial CAUSE.
This finger pointing without Hard Evidence makes the whole Tragedy so much worse. But its their Country , they need to handle it .
So Sad.
Not to go off Topic, but as comparison , but in Hawaii, the Fires.(where like 93 perished) . Some people are now blaming and Suing the Electric Company for Keeping the Wires LIVE ?
holy crap.. how in the world is the Electric Company responsible for WIND and Wild Fires??? . turn off Electricity every time the wind blows?

They really need to find the Cause.. or this will haunt them for a long time. That Area looks like a War Zone.

A neighbor of mine told me they heard there was an business/operation in the area that filled shotgun shells and bullets. In other words, a stock of gun powder.
Of course, it was according to a friend of a friend of a friend.
If there were no tanks of gas there, something like this sounds plausible.

As if on cue:

Gunpowder from an armory that operated clandestinely in the area would have been the cause of the explosion that caused the death of 28 people and injured 59, as well as the destruction of several buildings on Monday afternoon in this province.
Rumors and independent investigators believe that an irregular center for refilling shotgun and pistol cartridges operated at the scene of the accident.

However, officially, four days later, there has been no response on the possible causes of the incident.

Although within hours of the event, President Luis Abinader ordered the Intelligence Department of the J-2 General Staff, of the Ministry of Defense (MIDE), to direct the investigations carried out by the Fire Department to determine the cause and origin of the explosion in the commercial area of Padre Ayala street, San Cristóbal.

Ah that explains a lot. I was thinking "I wonder if one of the powerful families is involved in this" and from this video it is clear there are a lot of noses in the trough. Should one of them be arrested for corporate manslaughter, if so many people have been arrested due to lack of safety?
