Maybe but I doubt it. If her body Is found and the autopsy confirms she drowned and there is no evidence of foul play, then that’s an end to it. Her family could file a civil suit in the US against the young man to prove negligence but that would be extremely difficult given where it occurred and the PN’s chaotic investigation.I would guess there is also the possibility of a civil suit in the US if he is not charged or found guilty in the DR. Even if her body is found and an autopsy shows death by drowning.
If her body is found and drowning is the definitive result, the family will get their much needed closure and, I suspect, close ranks to limit media scrutiny. The last thing they would probably want after the loss of their daughter, is long drawn out litigation proceedings in the US broadcasted by media outlets.
