Hi Charm...

Thanks for the info!

How are the pools? I heard that the main pool (not adult pool) would have activities for most of the day, and closed at 6pm. Do you find it crowded?

Also, is the internet free, and is there a line up, and where is it located?

I leave Jan 18 at 615am.. ( with you OttawaSens.....) Me and hubby and kids...boy aged 11 and girl aged 9 (going on 16 as well)

You'll find me by the wave pool with a water, beside the fella with a corona in each hand!!

Hi Grogan
Sorry to hear you cannot upgrade to delux - especially for your Wedding - what a shame!! Hope its nothing to do with to do with our party; we are leaving on 1st April, there are 36 of us and quite a few have upgraded. Sorry!. What day are you getting married do you know yet? My friend posted the other day Iojames, she is getting married around the 8th April I think.

I must say this site is fab, both for the reviews of the people who have been but to get to feel you know some of the other people who will be there when you get there is great! - Not that I should worry with 35 others in our group, lol, but its nice to meet new people isnt it! :) I've only been visiting the site a few days and I think I am hooked.

I will be takng my 11 year old daughter, hope there is plenty to keep her occupied, its a tricky age - basically she thinks the's 16!

TTFN

I booked our trip today!! Made up my mind and booked. We will be there March 22 - April 8th. My daughter is 13 and always likes to make new friends. This preteen age is tough.

On the plane in 11 hours!

Dahabs/Ottawasenators/raindear:

I'm sure we'll eventually meet, but you should be able to spot me by the wave pool. I'll be the guy with hair (just for you again dahabs!) wearing a 1/2 pink and 1/2 blue wrist band (in support of breast cancer!). Can't wait to have a drink with ya all!

Planner - I have your phone number and will contact you in the next day or two. Hopefully I can remember to pick up a Calgary Herald and Calgary Sun for you! Minimum - I have a bunch of stuff for the kids (which really matters, eh!).

Group... I am wondering of those who have come back in the last few days and those that have already been can someone tell me the answers to my questions.
1. What is there for the 15-19 age group to do at night?
2. Is there someplace for this age group to go and dance?
3. Are they allowed into the disco with their parents? by themselves?
4. What is there for this age group to do during the day?
5. Are there many kids at the resort in this age group? or are they smaller kids?

We booked this trip in October and are having second thoughts. Any help would be appreciated

Internet Cafe/Pools

Hi Critters:

Pools are fine - but shallow (1.5 m at most). I don't know about the VIP pool though. They were never really crowded when I was there last week.

Internet cafe is about 1/2 way between the buffet entrance and coffee bar, and a short 30 second walk to the main bar and theatre stage. I paid US $3.00 per 30 minutes. Prices are clearly posted. They have 4 windows machines with flat screens and a 5th server machine used by the internet cafe guru. Speed was fine.

The internet cafe was quite busy sometimes, and quiet other times. No rhyme or reason, although I suspect it would be busier when raining outside.

Hope this helps.

hi kathy P

for the 15-18 year olds there is nothing much for them to do on a night..
the entertainment is aimed for the under 12s on a night until 9pm then maybe bingo and quizzes.
they will not be allowed in the disco because it is for over 18's
the 15 year old will be allowed in the teenage club 9-15 years.
the kids clubs are one for upto 9 and the other 9-15.
the 9-15 clubs runs from 9pm to 11pm each night and they have a diferent thing each night examples bin bag fashions, making clothes out of binliners, costruction night, making things out of pasta, chocolate party, movie night.
during the day there is the pool for them or the beach.
the age to 15 to 18 are the ones who are really stuck (most use the internet)
entertainment is not good even for the adults.

Great pictures, just what we have been waiting for.
In all my trips to the DR (5), I have only seen El Presidente beer, no Canadian or American beer. Not a beer drinker. They make the best cocktails, I always try the " drink du jour", it seems each resort has their own version. Never been disappointed in those. Coffee with a little kahlua in it is perfect in the morning while watching the waves . Never saw any Bailys, or Irish Creme. Clamato is pretty scarce. You will get an amazing Ceasar at the Check Point Bar in Sousa. Just remember the clamato is more expensive than the vodka, so it will be mixed accordingly. Happy Times !!!

Pictures

Great pics of the deluxe suites! Though I have to say apart from double glass doors onto the veranda, and the hammock it looks pretty similar to the way the looked before. The rooms were very dark before because of the window and door onto the veranda. They used to be covered with wooden slatted blinds/louvres. However now it looks much brighter! These are the bungalows that are overlooking the Golf Course, they are in a lovely location!

It is the sunshine that I am looking forward to! The colour of the sea and the sand and the flowers and greenery! I could sit on that beach all day! After a grey winter, february is a great time to go!

Can I just offer a word of warning about the nightclub - when the hotel first changed from an Adult's Only resort a couple of years ago, we saw an influx of 15/16 year old girls. At the time, the hotel were giving the families the choice of whether or not the kids were to have adult bands or not and a lot of them ended up with the adult bands on their wrists! This resulted in a lot of drunken teenagers around the place. The parents must have been easily led and allowed them to go to the nightclub every night. It is not a suitable place for that age group. It is busy and there is a lot going on. It seems that it is safe because it is on the Jack Tar complex, but in fact anyone from anywhere can come in!

Be Warned!

Wedding info

Hi Grogran/Clowe or anyone else who knows:-

Grogan - you mentioned that you get a free room upgrade with your wedding package, how did you hear of this as it does not state it in the brochure under what is included as part of the package. I am booked into a family room and we are travelling with our 2 kids but you mentioned as they don't have any deluxe suites available you will still get the wristband to use the adult only pool and bar - this would be great as there is enough family and friends coming with us to look after the kids so we can get some time alone. Although the plan is to swap with the parents who are booked into the deluxe suite once we have been married and they get our family room with the kids. Ha Ha.

Upgrades

Hi Shelobern, Im going with First Choice and it states in the wedding package free room upgrade, subject to availability, i was lucky enough to book a royal deluxe room and we are hoping they will upgrade us to a royal jacuzzi room. as far as having the wristband for the royal amenities that sounds like you will have to check with Grogan (kelly) as it looks like shes done her homework on that one. hope you get it, we certainly all deserve some more pampering on our wedding/honeymoon dont we. :cheeky:

Thanks Christine - I have booked through First Choice and have the Wedding brochure (Nov 06 - Oct 07) and it doesn't mention it. Or is it in the wedding pack that they send you as I haven't had mine yet? And your quite right we deserve a little extra pampering on our weddings!

Hi to everyone, what a fantastic site, been glued to it daily. Can anyone who has already been or who may be there at the moment (with kids aged 9-15) remember the names of any of the Wavelength reps? My kids are dying to know if any of the reps from our last 2 holidays will be there. Many thanks, keep up the good work. Only 4 more pages to reach the big 100!!!
