pictures

I didnt mean to cause such an uproar. My question still exists. I have seen pictures from the people who had a great time. (Thanks and any more are greatly appreciated.!)
I would just like to see pics of some of the problems that people have experienced, to help me make the decision of rideing this out, or switching hotels before I go.
I am not sure your reluctance to post the pictures, but if you do not want to post them for everyone can you please PM me and it will help me make a decision.

Sewage is my main problem. Most other things I can put up with. We went one year to a new resort and found out that all keyes fit all room doors. Everyone knew, no one entered anyone elses room and you kept anything valuable locked up, common sense, mind you the maid did drink my bottle of Bailiey's/ Our room was always cleaned early and well, not sure how she did the rest of the day. :)

Would it be prudent to ask for a second floor room???

thanks

towels and room safes

Hello, all. Thread is very interesting and I look forward to reading it each day. A couple of questions that have not been touched on yet in the 63 pages.....
1. Beach towels, are they provided? Are they washed and clean reissued? Are they in abundance or hard to find, do we need to bring our own?
2. Room Safes: Are there safes in each room? Are they included or do you pay a user fee per day?

Thankfully I have not read anything about belongings going missing from the rooms - a bonus anywhere.

:surprised

Hey there, the towels are provided when you check in you will be issuee a card which you can exchange for a beach towel at the towel station on the way to the beach. When you turn your towel back in you must make sure you get your card back!! you will have to turn it in when you check out and they will charge you if you don't have it. and room safes are avail, but they cost extra. it is usually a flat fee for the length of your stay. aprox 10.00.

We have switched to another hotel. Can put up with anything except hot and cold running sewage. When we contacted First Choice to switch hotels and gave them the reasons, they were completely uninterested and surprised to hear that there were any reported problems at HVGB. As far as they are concerned everything is going swimmingly !

However, heres wishing everyone who is going to HV a great holiday.

We will keep up with this thread. Cheers.

I will make a request that we stay away from personal discussions and finger pointing of any kind. It WILL get this thread closed.

Everyone has the right to their opinions. We don't have to agree but we do have to respect the individual right to have them. Please be more considerate.

Every single person will have their own standards and their own reasons for complaining. Again, we may not agree with them but we do have to respect them.

First Choice and Signature will have to sort out ALL the problems once an official complaint is taken. A representative does work for the company. Their signature on a form does NOT mean they agree, it does mean they took the report. After that there is a system for investigating.

Let's get back to the fun stuff:

Getting out of the hotel. Someone commented on it and I will suggest that everyone get out of the hotel and into Puerto Plata. Get a sense of this wonderful country! It is well worth seeing and experiencing.

did you have to pay extra to switch when are you going

Yes - but it was less than ?300 for the four of us to go to a 4 star + official rating 5 star which has been up and running for some time and has had consistently good reviews. We thought it was a price worth paying for some piece of mind.

Hope this helps.

Ottawasenators (Ron) - you arrive on the 18th, correct?

Dahabs - when do you arrive?

Raindear -when do you arrive?

As others have said, I'd like to put a face to some of the names. Don't worry Ottawasenators, I'm not looking to sucker punch you but shake your hand and enjoy a beer!

Planner -with all your inside info - where is the best place to buy TRUE Dominican cigars? I'm not looking for cheap black market cigars, but genuine Dominican cigars. Are there government type stores that guarantee quality?

Thanks!
p.s. I'm sure glad you cleared up your gender issue - phew!

Temporary room

One more thing someone had said they had to wait 6hrs before they got there room,my question is wht time did u get there.

We arrived between 11:00 - 11:30pm, we didn't get our TEMPORARY room until just after 5:00am. The room had already been used, we had to help the maintenance man change the sheets so that we could sleep for a couple of hours. We had to be back in the front lobby at 9:00am to speak with the guest room services manager (I'm sure some of you have already dealt with her)to try and make arrangements for a permanent room and to also speak with the signatures rep.

There can be no excuse for that. They are well aware of how many guests are arriving on which flights at what times. They certainly should credit you for one night's accommodations at a minimum. Living in POP and spending most evenings at the casino at HV, the feeling that I get is that worse than the problems people are experiencing with the hotel infrastructure, the complete disregard in addressing the guests problems is approaching the boiling point. Yes, Planner, the tour reps are busy listening to the problems. Management is just using them as a firewall. Their plan is to continue to abuse the guests until they eventually hopefully work out their problems. This hotel should go into a 30 lockdown, revamp, address the problems and start over.

We get there Jan 18th.

When do you get there?

Spire2000 - Was there any food or drink while you had to wait? Getting there at that time, I assume you would be tired. I don't think I saw the time before I had replied (many times no doubt). I would be a little annoyed if I waited till 5am. (actually, my wife would be pi!!!ed off, thus I would not be in the greatest mood)

I'm looking forward to meeting some people here.

There is a 24 hour bar that we only found out about because there were guests in front of us who had been waiting 4 hours already. Hotel reception did not offer us anything while we waited. This bar supposedly had food, but it was just dried up cheese sandwiches and a strange meat they called salami.

Normally 20-25 minutes, they are on opposite sides of Puerto Plata. But extensive road construction may cause delays up to additional half hour. It just depends if the work crews decide to dig another hole in the road.
